Wi-fi randomly dropping on Windows 10 desktop

My Windows 10 machine is randomly "disconnecting" from the wi-fi. I say "disconnecting" because sometimes the connection will still be alive, but no data will be coming through. I have two different wi-fi adapters (1 new with support for 2.4 and 5ghz and one old one that supports 2.4 ghz) and both are doing the same thing with the connection randomly dying.

When I lose connectivity/data I check my internet on my phone and it's still active so it's definitely something to do with my PC. Considering I've tested two different wi-fi adapters and the problem appears on both, I'm beginning to think it might have to do with the Windows 10 updates that came through a day or two ago. It's definitely not a signal strength issue as I get -60 to -65 on the 2.4 ghz band and -55 to -60 on the 5 ghz band.

Any ideas?

Edit. One of the weird glitches is on the adapter that supports both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz, it has decided that there is no internet at all on the 5 ghz network. Meanwhile, my phone is connected to 5 ghz fine.

Edit2. And after a reboot it seems to be happy connecting to 5 ghz again. Weird.

You can try this: Go to device manager, select the wifi adapter and check this is disabled:

You can also check power options > Advanced setting for current profile and see if these are enable:

fire up WiFi Analyzer or a similar app and see if your new neighbors or some other new interference happens to be set to the same channel as your PC for example

I've found my PC adapter to be more sensitive than mobile phones to stuff like that, keeping in mind you tend to not push that much data through your phone so the intermittent disruptions may just not be noticeable on the phone

or your PC adapter's antenna might be in a bad spot while your phone just centimeters away is in a better spot

or, unfortunately as WiFi goes, it could be many other things

also, try switching you phone's WiFi off completely when sitting at the PC, it also causes interference, as does any other device(s) using the same WiFi connection

I did a full shut down and moved the dongles away from my PC and they seem to be behaving themselves (touch wood). Hopefully things stay this way.

Had this problem a while ago and nothing would resolve it. When my daughter fired up her laptop she started experiencing the same problems but our phones had no trouble at all. Eventually I disabled the 5g wifi on the router which solved the problem.

Ugh, so was all good until about 14.00, then it doesn't just lose data and "die", it forced me to a landing page for the new Mercusys router I bought (I didn't have a chance to screen grab this page).

Due to the fact I had a meeting coming up I tested my laptop and desktop. Both had the same issue. Phone was still connected without an issue.

With time running out I turned my phone into a hotspot and used it for my meeting.

After the meeting, I disconnected from the hotspot and it connected to the 2.4ghz network on the router without a single issue... I didn't reset or unplug anything, or change anything. Simply left it while I used my mobile data for work. I haven't tested 5ghz but I will do it after I'm done with work.

Edit. Will also try and update the firmware and see if that makes any difference...
