Widespread GTA4 issues

Basically, there are widespread reports of users struggling to install it and Freezing on the PS3. There are reports of a few 360s freezing as well, but on a much smaller scale.

I suspect it has something to do with Rockstar's RAGE engine as Bully on the 360 also had issues before Rockstar patched it. (Probably why the 360 is also now less susceptible)

There are similar reports that a few Xbox 360 consoles have RROD'd when playing GTA IV, but this is hardly unexpected news...

On the upshot, it's not all doom and gloom for the PS3. Apparently you can watch in game TV in full screen mode.

I never denied it!

I merely hypothesised that the issue is apparently less so on the 360, probably because they hit a similar glitch with Bully....

Rockstar have to design, build and maintain their own server infrastructure for the PS3 version, quite an undertaking, which hopefully they're up to in the long run. That's what £4 a month pays for. GTA4 on XBL is distributed on the XBL servers which are designed for the entire XBL userbase, and is currently humming along happily.

i have the game on xbox no problems this side.

and no you dont watch tv on full-screen. they lied. but that makes up like 0.0002% of the game.

its a blast.

picked up a ps3 copy yesterday (without preorder, last one at zaps apparently, lucky me) and i've been playing merrily ever since. i must say though, it feels like theres that special "wow" missing. sure its all in hd and stuff, but so far it plays just like san andreas without the sixaxis controls, which isnt really a bad thing because i really loved that game, but i still kinda feel cheated off 700 bucks... oh well, maybe its still too early to tell

I fired up GTA 4 last nite, after the long wait. Jammed it for a couple hours no prob. This morning I cause a bit of havoc before work and get a 'Disc unreadable' -.-"

Gonna try again tonight, hopefully its nothing too serious. I haven't had any problems that have been reported
