I just received a message saying:
" You have inserted your SIM card in another cellphone. To request cellphone settings, reply 'yes' (free SMS) and Vodacom will send the setting to you."

Seems like a scam or cloned SIM?

For now I will not respond

Scsm if you haven't taken sim out or dislodged the sim. Could possibly be a clone card.

Yup did not move my SIM.. Wonder if they are trying to access my banking details or phishing with cloned SIM?

Isn't there a web site where you can check the number?

Googled it but nothing much. Just dubious services on various advertising sites yes. Tells me it is a scam but not sure how it operates and whether there is any risk

Just googling that cell number gets some very weird results, with the following taking top marks. :erm: :wtf:

Don't think I'll quote the ad as its NSFConservatives

EDIT:

Found another dodgy ad with this number in use from 2012:

I'm based in Johannesburg RSA,I have a rough diamond which may be 1carrat, my source gave just one to sell and he says there is more where this one came from, so I need a buyer I can build trust and a working relationship.
Make me an offer, then I will be your supplier.

Ahem.. Just come off the phone to Vodacom Customer Care:
'It's not a fraudulent SMS sir - this SMS was sent in error to all Vodacom Subscribers'.
Me: 'What? All 20 million..?'
CC: 'Yes. I will log a service request so you don't receive it again'.
Me: 'Are you telling me that it's being sent repeatedly?'
CC: 'Sir, I can't tell whether this will happen again'. (So, In other words Yes).

:wtf: you got it too?

Got the same for the second time today as well.

So now it's not a scam, and is in fact an error on Vodacom's part, and they want to remove your number from ever receiving these messages again? So in other words, we cocked up, but instead of fixing it we'll just completely remove this security feature entirely from your profile...

I got one a few weeks back, called the vodacom call center, asked them to check if anything dodgy has happened on my profile/a sim swap was requested or if my service has changed. she said everything was ok. You never know if someones tried to clone your sim etc.
