Wifi Adapter

Guys

Im pulling my hair out. I have a usb wifi adapter. Im trying to connect my phones wifi hotspot, to connect to the internet.

My phone picks up the adapter, but when i do a scan, the pc doesnt recognise my phone. I have an HTC Desire HD, and the wifi adapter is an Edimax Nano USB adapter.

Am i doing something wrong here? I went control panel, and network and sharing, add wireless device, but the scan was just searching. My firewall i completely turned off as well.

Should i have my phones wifi on only, or do i put the portable wifi hotspot ticked off instead.

Im virtually pulling my hair out in frustration.

Correct me if Im wrong but you trying to connect your phone to the wifi network?
Do you have a wireless modem?
All I do is search on my phone for wireless networks and when I find it, it asks for a password which is usually under the modem itself.

No im trying to use my phone as a wifi hotspot. My wifi adapter picks up my pc, but my pc wont recognise my phone, even though i have wifi on my phone enabled

Do you have wifi tethering enabled on your phone? As you'd need to make your phone an AP before you can use it.
