Yo,

Whats the best option for a long range Accesspoint. 1*15dbi Omni or Panel antennas ? the cost of panels are FAR cheaper than omni. but looking at covering a nice wide area.

8dbi Omni's are 1/2 the price of a 15dbi .... is the price/performance justified?

Also places to get antennas that doesnt mangle the Credit card.

Stay away from those evil omni's! They only thing they are really good for is generating so much noise for the rest of us, that our signal's can't get through!

For a long range link, rather look at a 24db Grid... very directional but you won't be sorry. If you want to cover a wide area, consider 90 degree sector panels...

Besides, if you get an omni, we will beat you over the head with it! :D

My plans are to cover a wide area of benoni (the flaw is that I am not on a high point) and finally link up to edenvale *SOMEHOW!* I want the easiest possible route to get the community involved at the least cost.

Suggestions ?

Richard

Richard, what about a waveguide? Not too expensive, decent power, not TOO directional... Otherwise, more than one panel, mounted back to back on the mast.
