Hi Guys!

Silly question but i really wanna know why vodacom is not making wifi calling available to the general public? I live in an area where the vodacom signal is weak and wifi calling would resolve the signal issues.

If you have a Samsung S6 you can use it. If you dont have a S6, then you cant. That is pretty much the answer that you going to get. It has been discussed quite a bit on mybb in various threads.

Vodacom subscribers with iPhones reported they now have Wi-Fi calling support for their devices.

“This effectively allows customers to use a Wi-Fi network as their Vodacom tower when making a call,” said Vodacom.

“This is especially useful when you have poor indoor coverage, as the Wi-Fi network… allows the call to be transferred over the existing ADSL or fibre backhaul network.”

How to get Wi-Fi calling on iPhone

The feature becomes active after you receive a carrier update.

Once the update is installed, navigate to the Phone section in the Settings menu, tap on Wi-Fi calling, and tap on the slider to enable it.

Vodacom said users must:

Ensure they are running the latest version of iOS (Settings>General>Software Update).
Ensure they are provisioned with VoLTE, which is used as a provisioning for VoWiFi. Call 082 111 to check. (Most customers are auto-provisioned.)
Go to Settings>General>About, and wait a few seconds. A pop-up should appear stating there is a Carrier Update available. Select the option to update.
Go to Settings>Phone and find the option for Wi-Fi calling. Select it.
When Wi-Fi calling is on, the network name should show “Vodacom VoWiFi” next to the signal bars.
Supported devices

Supported devices are:

iPhone SE
iPhone 6 and 6 Plus
iPhone 6s and 6s Plus
iPhone 7 and 7 Plus
Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge
Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge
Pricing

Vodacom said subscribers will be charged standard call rates, or will use available monthly minutes, when using VoWiFi.

“It is important to note that there will be simultaneous data usage on the respective Wi-Fi network.”

Vodacom launched Wi-Fi calling in August 2015 on the Samsung Galaxy S6.

Cell C followed, launching Wi-Fi calling on several devices in October 2015. It later added Wi-Fi calling support for iPhones on its network.

S7 / S7 Edge also fully supported for both VoLTE and VoWiFi.

I'm running monthly, a 10 gig through Capitec @ R599 pm.
Add to that a $19 Skype account (R200) per month for unlimited calls to South African cells and landlines, as well as 60 minutes to most numbers in the world.
I average 800 mins per month phoning locally.
I also get a bundled Office 365 subscription with 1Tb storage.

This for R800 per month...

Vodacom et al, is julle blerrie mal?

Hi Jannie, Help please. I am running UK BTU Nougat on my S7 Edge. I want to flash the Vodacom firmware in order to enable VoLTE and VoWiFi. Where can I download the firmware?

Jannie, my Lenovo Zuk Z2 supports Volte, but it does not want to work. I have checked, my line is properly provisioned for Volte. Is it because my phone was not supplied by Vodacom and does not have Vodacom specific carrier settings? Is there a way to fix it?

I think I may have misunderstood...but....

You still pay using Wi-Fi even if it's your home Wi-Fi?

Yes, it comes off your minutes, or if monthly minutes is finished, charged per second as per your tariff plan with Vodacom. Where the big plus comes in is with roaming. local rates for international travelers.

Samsung does an OTA push to your phone typically. I guess they'll only do it to phones with the original Vodacom firmware. So if you can reflash your phone with an official Vodacom version, it should update.

But I've got no idea where you'll find it. Vodacom Repair centers might have it.
