Wifi calling?

Maybe this is an ignorant question, but @ OP, why would you look for this service to supplement the lack of cell coverage in your area, as opposed to simply using whatsapp or skype calling over your wifi connection?

This is actually a good question. I don't see how they justify charging you R199 if you already pay for a contract with minutes/sms's allocated.

Especially when you have to pay for your own Wifi at home and land line.

@Cell_C why the additional cost to have something that benefits YOUR COMPANY (by having users use their own data and landline for your communication). The only time any charges apply is when it goes out from the land line to one of your towers (or MTN/Vodacom towers) to whoever I might be dialing.

The minutes are already included in my contract, I'm doing you a favor by offloading my traffic onto my own wifi network that I already pay for, why charge me R199 for that then?

I think people really need to see this as just a way to better your reception in case your house is in a dead spot. That and low international roaming rates.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe I just don't understand the value proposition of this concept sufficiently.

but what extra cost are u referring to? u pay what u would have paid anyway? this is for people who have wifi at home but with bad cell reception? ind of a modern day femtocel? so u are already paying for ure wifi(be it on adsl/fibre. u already paying for ure cell contract. now u will just be able to get good reception....via the wifi and be able to make better use of ure cellphone? where is the extra cost....unless u are going to go and install wifi equiptment just to make use of wifi calling?

Dear Cell_C, what is the status of wifi calling for the S6? It is supposed to be available already.
What should I do to get it, it is not in the phone settings.

Wifi calling uses you Cell C minutes or airtime to make the call. It does not use 3rd party applications such as skype. So for example if you are in a area with no Cell C network but have wi-fi you call still receive calls when someone dials your number and you can also make calls.

I find my wifi calling is sketchy sometimes it connects sometimes it doesn't so its frustrating vodacoms wifi calling doesn't work either so whats the point of all these fancy things if we can't use them

Hi iCuSD

The strength of your connection will depend on the signal strength of the hotspot that you are connected too. If you connect to a stable hotspot your W-fi calls will connect seamlessly.

Unfortunately this is not the case, seems to be troubling alot more often recently.

Doesn't matter what Wi-Fi I connect to, if their Wi-Fi calling is down it wont connect to or receive any calls. Last night and this morning it's unusable.

MM and DM do you'll have any idea if there are currently any network issues that may be causing it recently?

I've tried on both a contract and prepaid Wi-Fi calling active sim.

I have found when i force my signal to 3G it connects to Wifi calling but when i have LTE active and i am not in a LTE area my wifi calling doesn't connect

Hi. Just joined.
I am a truly mobile warrior with Africa as my primary playground.

I have been with the blue and yellow networks post paid before joining Cell C prepaid.

I have used WiFi calling since it became available and now roam in Africa exclusively on it.

With a prepaid local data sim in my wingle I operate without any issues.

I have used iPhone 5 S and iPhone SE on the service.

All I would still want cell c to offer is prepaid roaming voice. I would happily be a beta tester for them. I travel for 2 - 3 weeks every month.

Locally I don’t WiFi call as cell c have unlimited cell c calls if you recharge for more than R500.00

Just use the Whatsapp wifi call feature. Works pretty well for me.
