WiFi for XBOX

I've got an oldish Telkom Marconi router lying around and was wondering if I can set this up on my Xbox to connect to my wireless network?

Or perhaps if someone knows of a cheaper generic to the official MS Wireless Wifi adapter.

If the router can be setup as in client mode (need to access it's dashboard) then theoretically it's possible to connect wirelessly.

There is no generic wireless adapter for the Xbox 360 unfortunately :(

simple, all you have to do is:

1) plug the marconi into a pc via ethernet cable for the initial setup and connect to its web interface page

2) assign the marconi an ip address that is within your range (eg if your main router's ip address is 192.168.1.1 then give the marconi an address of 192.168.1.254 or something).

3) then switch off dhcp and the firewall on the marconi.

4) then, set all the wireless properties on the marconi to be exactly the same as those on the main router, so that will be the ssid, encryption type, encryption password and radio channel.

5) plug your xbox into the marconi

6) and then you will have an uncle whom you shall refer to as bob.

Really? have you tried this?

I will be surprised if you will be able to put the router in client mode. (although someone just informed me that it is possible with the routers running busybox and if you ssh into it to set it up.)

Currently I connect my XBox to my wireless network using a WRT54GL running dd-wrt, works like a charm.
 
Yeah, client mode. Don't work with networking much these days. Strictly gaming consoles.
 
Should be possible.

My setup is:
ADSL Line <-> Billion ADSL Wireless Router <-WLAN-> Siemens Gigaset Wireless AP <-> XBox360

The trick is to set up the two WLAN devices for WDS. Then it becomes one big LAN.

Edit: The Xbox360 ethernet port plugs into one of the Siemens AP's LAN ports
 
Ok, so playd around a bit and didn't get it to work. My xbox doesnt pick up that its connected to the marconi

I do think I will need to bridge the 2 routers to connect to each other. Am I right when saying that once my main router is bridged, I can't access it wirelessly from my laptop anymore. Any way around this?

So my wanabe setup is:

Laptop
---wireless---
Netgear (ADSL)
---wireless--
Marconi
---cable----
xbox 360

That's basically the same as my set up.
Did you set up WDS (Wireless Distribution System, sometime called Wireless Repeater) on the Netgear and Marconi ?

With WDS working the laptop and Xbox should be on the same subnet.

Start by disabling encryption completely until the two routers are linked.

To get WDS working on my devices I had to configure the same SSID and channel number on both access points and configure the MAC of the siemens in the billion.

I don't know the netgear or marconi, but make sure the xbox is connected to a LAN port (not WAN).
