This will probably be a stupid question, but does anyone have an idea of what sort of equipment places like Mugg&Bean and even Nandos use for their wireless hotspots? If not, perhaps even a company name where i could get more info?

It depends if you want the service (managing the clients) from a company or just want to connect it to an existing ADSL or Wireless broadband connection. If it is the former you may contact MTN bussiness, CellC Voda, etc. for a business solution else any decent wireless adsl router/modem with good antenna radiation or additionally an external aerial connection connected to a decent omni directional antenna can be configured to be a wireless hotspot.
