I have a very odd issue that I have no idea why... I'm stumped!

I've had Adsl for 2 years with Telkom Internet - and both my Sony Z2 and Sony Tablet Z connect to my Trendnet TEW-6588RM wifi router.

They have always worked ; walk inside picks up network and links like standard.

Today I changed my ISP so the only thing that changed was username and password. PC Internet flies... TAblet Z connects to wifi and flies... But the Z2 connects with zero throughput.

No idea why?

DNS is probably the old ISP so check if it is static, or stuck somehow.

That's be on my router though?

But my tablet is connecting and working with no issue or changes

UGH, you could do so much better.

I know ; it was cheap and did the job :(

Do Sony make routers? ;)

Btw - it's not quite zero throughput, but rather like 1-2kb/sec ... I get the odd delayed Whatsapp message after retrying over and over again

You get what you pay for, you know that.

Try at a friends house and see if its any different.

I know this - but I've had my ADSL, my phone, my tablet and the router all working for years.

I decide to change my username/password on the router (that's it!) and my tablet connects - but my phone won't ?

Latest OTA Firmware?

Yup - it was working until I changed the username/password anyhow.

I may just reset the router (factoiry default)

I dunno what that means - but I see there is a new firmware version I'm about to try

Hard Reset (aka 30/30/30 reset):
The following procedure will clear out the NVRAM

-With the unit powered on, press and hold the reset button on back of unit for 30 seconds.

-Without releasing the reset button, unplug the unit and hold reset for another 30 seconds.

-Plug the unit back in STILL holding the reset button a final 30 seconds.

This procedure should be done BEFORE and AFTER every firmware upgrade/downgrade.

30-30-30 Reset

ok just rebooted and it appears to work ; won't do firmware if that fixed it.

Weird issue - as I rebooted earlier

quite possibly something related to your phone and how it resolves things

have you disabled wifi on the phone rebooted it and then re-enabled and done the home wifi setup?

- posted presumably while you were posting
see that it works so thats good.

Sounds like it could have been an IP conflict on the network.

Thanks guys - yea I had rebooted my phone a few times - reboot of the router helped!

Nope - before I installed I rebooted which worked.

So you arnt going to do the update?

Firmware updates should be treated as a last resort in all cases. Unless the problem continues, or there were critical security updates in later firmware versions, it's never really advisable to suggest a firmware update as the possibility of bricking a device is not one people (nor businesses) want hanging over their heads.

Ultimately if something is working, I'd recommend leaving it be.
