Wifi router with cellular modem built-in options

Hi guys,

@Azimuth, the budget is around R2,000 - R2,500 or so hence why I am going for a 3G instead of LTE.

I read online that even using a 2.4GHz grid antenna would outperform the Yagi antenna like the one I mentioned earlier. Plus those little Yagi antennas are out of stock at Scoop, so now I am looking for an alternative. Added to that, it was mentioned that RG58 cable comes standard with those Yagi antennas which is not suitable for such high frequencies, so in fact, it is a bit of a waste since I'd be paying for cable that I won't use for this project.

What are your opinions of going with a 2.4GHz grid antenna instead considering that such an antenna does not resonate at 2.1GHz which is the HSPA frequency for Vodacom.

And on top of that, get HDF195 cable to hook this up as mentioned in the post above, it is a good compromise to LMR400 which is quite think and expensive.

Cellular antennas are designed to have a wider operating range from 900MHz to 2100MHz. A cellular antenna may be a better choice if you do consider Cell C in the future, as Cell C uses 900MHz for 3G, or if any of the operators get 800MHz for LTE in the future.
 
WireFree, I've going to go with the Yagi from Poynting. Would hate to make an expensive mistake. The site where I am doing this installation is in Port Edward in KZN and I'm in the Cape, so I only have 1 shot to get this right within a year.

Btw, I did a Google search for HDF195 cable since I want to know what the difference is between this and LMR400, but came up empty handed with only search results pointing to Poynting .. was hoping for a general wikipedia article on the various cables.

Hmmm....

Will post updates as I start to get all the gear and so forth.

Download PDF for each type. Expect variation in catalogue attenuation (or a real one) for different brands. HDF-195 type is economy cable, lower specs than LMR-195, but cost effective.

Note of minimum bend radius, important when installing cable.
