Hi all. Was just wondering if there a device i can use to increase the strength of my wifi signal. I have a double story house, with a mweb billion router downstairs and when im upstairs using my laptop i only get 1 bar signal and its very unreliable.

The first thing to do is to test if either of your devices could be faulty before spending money on equipment.
Borrow a router and laptop from a friend (if you can) and then connect one at a time and see if it offers any significant improvement.
If it doesn't:
Get a wireless AP such as the Linksys WRT54GL and set it up as a "Universal Repeater". You'd probably need to install DD-WRT to achieve this.

You could also try and move the router. On does not in my experience get great signal being directly above or below an ariel/antennae. Do you get signal if you move horizontally away some distance? Wireless adapters in laptops are very variable from laptop to laptop. Try a different laptop too if you can.

If you're right above the router, orientate the antenna of the router horizontally so that it is transmitting towards you. Moving the router around a bit may also help, especially if you're going to use the laptop in a fixed position upstairs. You might just be sitting in a null.

Is the upstairs sections a wooden or concrete floor ?
As suggested move the Wireless AP and see where the best location in the house would be to get the best signal up stairs
Remember wifi signals are seriously anntenuated (loss) with concrete walls, hence wood, rhinoboard should provide the least loss.
