Wii and WiiConnect24

Hi all,

I just received my Wii today and have been trying it out for a few hours.

I've hooked it up to work wirelessley with my router and get onto the net but I've come across something irratating. If you set the country to South Africa - Wiconnect24 doesn't work (the updater still works) which means the Wii store and other internet sections don't. Configure your wii for U.K and it works fine. So it would seem that a SA wiiConnect24 is not available yet. Is anyone aware of this or know more about this issue? I'm going to contact the Nintendo customer support line on Monday but just wondering if anyone has any ideas or thoughts

Go to nintendo.co.za. There is a section where you can register your products. In this area it informs you that the Internet services are coming soon.

As to how I;m enjoying the wii itself, I'm loving it. I've set mine up currently for proper internet access so if I'm too lazy to go to the PC I'll browse on my set and I've dumped some old classics on as well : Super Mario Bros 1+2 and Ghouls and Ghosts (Ghosts and Goblins 2 by SEGA).

Looked at some of the Nintendo 64 games but you need the classic controller to play them.
 
Will probably get some of the classics for my fiancee as well, but honestly, the console has me underwhelmed. The motion sensing is fun, but I still need to find a game that pulls me for long hours on this console, and at the prices that might take awhile.

Picked up my wii play bundle at Westgate earlier, just waiting for my brother to bring back my console. I bought an imported one more than a week ago, he borrowed it over the weekend, will like to hear his opinion of it.
 
Set your country settings to the UK for now. All update, Virtual Console functions work fine. I've successfully purchased Wii points with my credit card and have several classics filled into those empty channel spots on the Wii menu.

Apparently you're able to keep your Wii points when you change regions.

Wii Opera is functional for most features gmail etc. It only supports Youtube when it comes to supporting embedded flash movies. No file downloads.

And, set your Mii's to mingle :)
 
Where do you purchase Wii points with CC? Shop channel was unavailable when I tried it on Tuesday night, location was set to UK, so the news and weather worked.

Don't Miis just mingle between friends?

Is this still the case with SA? Just got ADSL today, and tried to connect go to Wii shop, but am getting error message that was experienced in 2007. I will go change my Wii to UK, but it's ridiculous that more than 3 years have past and nothing has changed if SA doesn't have Wii internet services.
 
Still no internet in 2011

Just got a wii, and tried to setup connect24 services. No luck in SA
I will now change to Uk or something.
