In anticipation of the Wii arriving locally, I took at look at btgames and take2 for wii games. I was surprised at how expensive they are (about R550-R650) - but then it's a loooong time since I've bought any games at all, so I'm probably just very out of touch with prices :o

So I was wondering if there are any good online shops that deal in pre-owned games? I know btgames do, but obviously they don't have any for the wii yet, since they don't work with imports.

If you've got a Wii-PAL then you can try www.dvdcrave.com (Australia, also PAL), otherwise Wii-NTSC you can try www.play-asia.com ,but the Wii games are about R400 plus..

And with shipping, and forex fees, etc, I'd guess you probably wouldn't save much.

Any local online shops that sell pre-owned wii games? The local second hand market will probably take off more once the wii is available locally, but is anyone trading imported games locally? (PAL, since I'd want to play it on a local wii)

But are those current prices, or prices for the launch? I could understand that kind of pricing for a system that hasn't yet been locally launched, where they're catering for the tiny number of people would have bought their Wiis outside of SA.

Hopefully they'll be cheaper when the thing is actually launched. (But then again, maybe not  )

The 'pre-order' special prices at btgames, for Mario Party 8 and Wario Ware : Smooth Moves are R549 (the only two games they have listed so far). The 'normal' prices are given as R579. Of course these aren't actually available yet, so the normal price might be a bit different.

They're pretty similar to the imported games prices at take2, which is odd because I'd think that imported games would cost a bit more.

Damn. I was hoping to get a Wii so me and my three year daughter could play some games. But at those prices, she's not going to be able to afford very many games.

Hey Cathryn, glad to see a girl gamer on the circuit
for a change!
I hope i didnt mistake the name! LOL!
As you live in Cape Town maybe you want to swop or order wii games?
There is a brilliant little shop in Stadium on main in Claremont
called x-dvds and games.
You can swop or buy/order games from them
and they are excellent!
Ask for Ricky.021 6833257.

Well, I'm female, but not a hardcore gamer :-) Used to do more gaming in my varsity days, but I've gotten out of it since. Really looking forward to the wii though!

Thanks for the tip - I'll definitely drop by there and see what they've got.

I ended up ordering some games from DVDCrave, since it works out miles cheaper even including forex fees, and postage.

The only pity is that because it's my first order with them, they want to verify my credit card, so they put through a small amount, then I have to tell them how much it was, and then they'll authorize the payment. Luckily I started ordering well in advance of getting my wii on the 28th, so it won't delay my playing the games, but I just hope that the exchange rate doesn't vary too much between today and whenever they actually put the full charge through. They said they did the smaller amount this morning, but I don't know how long it will take to show up on my account, then how long it takes for them to process the order, process the charge, and for it to reach my bank here.

Eish. I really don't know if I'm going to get a Wii. I've got a Nintendo DS Lite, XBox 360 and a PC (that needs upgrading). Do I really need a 4th gaming platform to play my games on??? There are some really cool games on the Wii that I'm dying to play.

I can't wait to get my Wii :-) It just seems really fun.

You could try ebay.co.uk (they will have PAL)

Games for Wii sell from about 10 pounds (R145) exluding shipping. Most don't mention anything about shipping to SA, so you'll have to ask. It should not cost more than 4 pounds, but they may ask up to 10 pounds - bastards.

Which means, unless you want a newly released title (Ebay - 30 - 35 pounds + 10 pounds delivery = R675) then it's the way of the bargain. eg, older title: 15 pounds + 10 pounds delivery = R375.

Actually, there was a Smooth Moves which sold for 18, and whose shipping was 10, so that would have cost R420. Sadly you're always going to pay a substantial amount on new games, especially for a console which is new.

it seems that amazon.co.uk have some insane specials as well!

check out the 2GB Wii SD card and compare with local pricing. scary

Um let's see. 1st part games are brought into the country by core. They are ripping us off. R600 is not the price of Wii games. Most 3rd party games are R300-R450. I just preordered a game from btgames for R250.

For trading 2nd hand use www.tradestation.co.za

You can get games from www.take2.co.za for your SA Wii. UK games will work on Wiis bought here.

If you wanna moan at core use [email protected]
