Wii region-locked?

Hi guys

Is the Nintendo Wii region-locked? My sister wants one, and my mum's in the U.S at the moment, and it's really cheap there. If we get one there, would games bought locally work on it? Or would it need some sort of firmware hack ?
 
its region locked i bought US wii and when i tried using europe game CD's they wouldnt work which i bought from incredible connection
 
Softmod is software loaded on a SD card to load the homebrew channel. You then install various apps to make the console region-free, play old school games such as N64 emulators, etc.

In terms of warranty, you don't get any by bringing the console back to SA.

Using it online is quite safe as well!
 
ok i seem to get warranty and stuff here anyway with mine even got free stuff for my wii :)
so would a camera SD card work? and how do i go about installing the things is their a guide for it?

Good old fashioned Google search ;)

Any SD card will do. 2GB SD cards are dirt cheap these days :p
 
Well tried that and the guides I found I couldnt get it to work. Its the reason why i asked if you know of any guides which work.
