Wild West ~ If We Armed Everyone?

Crap. Everybody in Switzerland are about armed. You get to keep your kit from military service and your gun. No problems there. But then, this is Africa. The mentality...too many criminals would be shot and killed. aND THE "human" rights lot will catch a fit.

100%, the Swiss have an educated and employed population. Very little if any inequalities, nor do they have a history of violence. Extremely high standard of living. If anything they truly are a 1st world country. I wonder if the Scandinavians have similar gun policies?

Ignorant much?
US are at number 3 highest murder rate in the world overall. Take away the 3 states with the most severe gun requirements like Orlando and the US drops to the bottom of the list.
All the latest gun crimes over there have been committed in a "safe zone / Libtart zone".
Orlando isn't a state, it a city in Florida, and Florida has fairly low requirements when it comes to issuing licenses. Think about it, it's also known as the "Gunshine State" for a reason. ;)

If anything that's probably why Switzerland has little gun crime. Not because everyone has guns, but because of the factors listed above. Educated, wealthy citizens with a lot to lose have no intensive to go around mugging and robbing.

But here, millions of bored, poor, uneducated young men with nothing to lose and a bleak future, and you want to put guns in their hands? That's a recipe for disaster. Ultimately sorting out education and the economy is the answer.

That being said I've got no problem with people owning guns (after some screening) to protect themselves and their property. I just don't think its the complete solution to crime.

Please don't come here and bore us with your alt-facts

I shall give your suggestion the consideration it deserves.

none
I think Louisiana , Mississippi, Maryland, Missouri are the top murder states. And none of them have particularly strong gun regulation oddly enough.

Three of the four are "shall issue" states meaning you need to be licensed to carrying a concealed weapon, but getting the license is easy. Maryland is technically a "may issue" state which means you need a good reason to carry concealed.

But no permit required to purchase or carry rifle or shotgun.

In my truck
Under my shop counter
In my house

My step dad, ex mercenary lol (So a bit of an interesting character), carried one too (Shotgun). It was with us wherever we went many years ago. I kept thinking how useless it would have been in a real sudden and/or close up situation though :/

Time to reach + draw + aim + fire (Because usually it isn't on your person - it is concealed between seats or trunk or whatever - maybe even in a bag), awkwardness of carrying, weight, visibility, length of barrel at close up encounters etc... All disadvantages in an indoor or vehicle situation.

It is okay for defending an open farm or big property I suppose. And a good hit is more likely to stop a target. That's about it.

Hey I'm no expert at all, just my logic on it :o

Back in the day when the West of America was being tamed, the area was lawless, where bad folk roamed, raping, thieving , rustling and a bean eating.....

To help counter this, most folk carried guns..... Gun toting god fearing folk were all given a chance to return fire...

On lap 33 of my swim this morning, I got to thinking...

What would happen if everyone in SA was armed?

I know accidents would happen and homicides would increase.....but surely the criminal element would no longer hold the advantage?

If they were going to Hijack a car for example, surely they would think twice, knowing that the owner of that car was armed? Or breaking into house, knowing the person living there would be shooting back at you..... even in the case where guns are stolen, there would no longer be an advantage....

I don't condone guns, but it was a thought...

I wonder what the crime rate is in Israel where there are a lot of armed folk around?

Putting it out there.....

Have you watched Little House on the Prairie?

Re-masculating the police force is more important than disarming the citizenry.

I'm not sure in which circles you guys move, but most people I know, friends, family, do have guns and strangely they don't just shoot at random people in the street like the wild west.

More good people defenetly need to arm themselves, but its not for everyone.

On another note, not sure how I'd feel the day I were to ever effectively use a firearm. I fear those consequences on me more than anything. Dealing with killing a person that is - even if forced into that situation. Then again it could happen without a firearm too. Hit or maim or stab or club them the wrong way in self defense is the same I suppose.

That is my only fear, not the killing part, the consequences of the killing ie wrongly accused and jailed.

Since in SA seems like a white man just pointing a gun warrents jail.

Lol No. You would have to do something pretty stupid to be send to jail.

Don't believe all the fear mongering.

The exact opposite, I can't think of one person I know who has a gun.

It wouldn't even cross my mind to get one.
