Will an external antenna help?

Good day all

Ive been looking for answers, but cant really find what I was looking for.

I have 3G data contract with 8ta for the 10gigs day/night that came with a Huawei B683 router.

I stay in the CBD in Cape Town, and I noticed lately I was getting around 1mb download and upload speeds. Then by buying a longer lan cable I was able to put the router more by the window. This has helped boost the speeds up to 2-3mb download.

Now, my question is, if I buy an external antenna, will this help boosting the speeds? Ive noticed I loose connection a lot more lately, this is not great for online gaming. :p

I plan to move to ADSL once my contracts up, but still got 12months on my contract. So Im just looking for something to help me in the mean time.

It should, yes, when you consider that the connection will be stronger and drop less frequently if not at all. Especially if you game, you want the signal to be as strong as possible to ensure your ping doesn't spike.

I also want to get that router. Is it good? And does it have a fan in for cooling, because heat on a modem does affect signal aswell

Thanks, Ive looked at them, seems to be same thing I want to get. Just bid or buy is cheaper.

It seems to be ok, it has no fan as far as I can tell and yesterday I forgot to remove it from direct sunlight so it got quite hot after a while. Makes sense that my connection was pretty shoddy after that.
