Below is an e-mail i hope the Cell-C CEO will read and put some action in place.

Dear Mr CEO,

With the launch of Vodacom's Yebo4less and MTN Zone the peak on Network call rates are currently being slashed by both the Mobile Giants in an effort to keep them away from Cell-C. Cell-C needs a quick response to this problem.
Below is my suggestion which can be activated instantly over the Cell-C network.

Current Cell-C to Cell-C peak per second rates are astronomically high. This is a definite no go under current market conditions.

Cell-C needs to reduce on network call rates to at least
R1-50 per minute or 2.5c per second for calls to other Cell-C numbers
and a friends and family discount of R1-20 per minute or 2c per second peak time.
Calls to other networks can be maintained at R2-40 per minute or 4c per second.
Off peak rates can be set at R0.90c per minute or 1.5c per second to other Cell-C numbers.
The friends and family discount can be set at R0.60 per minute or 1c per second to other Cell-C numbers.
Off peak off network rates can be set at R1-20 per minute or 2c per second.
Cell-C is currently building a good subscriber base with its talk for Free, it needs to retain that growth and keep the money with Cell-C rather than pay high interconnect tariffs. A fantastic marketing campaign can be launched against the other mobile incumbents to say why wait like one of the first adverts Cell-C aired on Television with a guy looking at his watch and waiting to make a call in off peak time. ( Like for now MTN and Vodacom Customers have to wait for the Discounts to come up on the screens )

Something that would get the younger or Teens into the Cell-C groove would be low cost Cell-C to Cell-C sms's. eg
25c per sms to Cell-C all day and night.

The above suggestion would require no major software upgrades or Network resources because Cell-C currently has it in place though its just set at higher rates.

DXL - Mobile

COST BASED INTERCONNECTION WILL MAKE COMMUNICATION AFFORDABLE TO ALL !

Cell C have just launched 20% discount for peak time calls for prepaid users. For the month of May a workers promotion.

Maybe its the start of things to come.

It would be great though if the networks would go back to their pre Cell C interconnection fees, then SA consumers would really score.

I hate CellC. But you have some good ideas. You forgot about the part that they improve their service and network...

doesn't vodacom OWN cell c? -"Network call rates are currently being slashed by both the Mobile Giants in an effort to keep them away from Cell-C"

It's an old rap marketing technique, controversy sells

Hi DXL

Thanks for the comments. I will forward them through the the Cell C marketing team and product management teams.

Warwickw is correct regarding the 20% discount offered on prepaid Cell C to Cell C peak calls during May 2008 (workers month).

Cell C is not owned by Vodacom, we do have a national roaming agreement with Vodacom but Cell C carries more than 85% of traffic on our own network (2150+ base stations).

Cheers

C for yourself
