Hi

I already have a dish set up, but my decoder stopped functioning and rather than paying R350 to get a refurbished one from Multichoice I'm considering just getting a new one (with installation etc). I'll want to get a PVR sometime in the next 6 months or so, so was wondering whether I'd be able to feed the input from 2 dishes into it rather than getting a dual LNB?

Searched the forum but couldn't find anyone with a similar setup or info.

i doubt it

get the special, have the guy run the cable to the existing dish, sell the dish with its lnb on junkmail etc and buy a dual lnb

http://www.hdcabling.co.za/

edit:

i doubt it will work correctly, the same as splitting a single feed into the 2 tuners wont work correctly. if it did work everyone would just do that.

edit: something to do with different polarization

D3x! I do not see how it could not work.

Forget for a second about vertical and horizontal polarization. All the HD-PVR needs is two different feeds.

From a financial point of view I think it will be more costly. From an aesthetic point of view your house will look like you're addicted to TV :)

Financial POV - Actually cheaper.

Need a decoder anyway & I REFUSE to pay R350 for a refurbished one when I can get a new one (+ installation) for R499. Even without installation would have gone this route.
As I already have a dish installed, I can select to either use the second dish as well or do as D3X! recommended & sell it on gumtree.

Thanks for the info D3X!. Seems I'll try to sell the new dish & get the dual LNB when I want the PVR. (Don't think there's much of a market though as everyone gets a dish free now with a new decoder).

It would work, but it would probably be easier and cheaper to just hook up a dual lnb and get the pvr now

hmm you guys are prob right but i will stick with rather selling it and buying a dual lnb from hdcabling.

I think that's only for the special (R599). Also some people replace their dishes for whatever reason. I've heard of one person who's dish got ripped off by a gust of wind :D

Not getting the PVR now, will be getting a single view decoder either way so I was wondering if I can get some benefit from the free installation, rather than paying for installation when I get the PVR. Will only look at getting a PVR in about 6 months or so.

yes it will work, on the old HD pvr instalation guide they had a setup using 2 dishes, its just not very nice looking at 2 dishes :(
set up is exacly the same excpet each lnb feeds from a diferent dish as aposed to 1 dish with a dual lnb

It will definitely work.

I think what you should do is call the installer and ask him if he would be prepared to do a dual LNB install instead of a full install.

Then the install is done.

Sounds like a plan, thanks.

Ask the installer if he won't just do a straight swap. It's an easier job for him and the twin will cost him less than a dish anyway.

Beat me to it.
