Former president Jacob Zuma has five days to hand himself over to police to start serving his 15 month sentence. Do you think he will actually serve any time in prison?

He has no legal way not to, no appeal possible, no chance of a reduced sentence for good behaviour, nothing. BUT, it is a case of believing when I see it.

What about a presidential pardon?

Is a presidential pardon in the public interest? In my view, no, but Zuma sure has an active PR campaign in sympathising with the public. The 3.5% rule and all that.

Here is the thing, the ConCourt has made a big decision now, and to see the state intervene, especially by putting a presidential pardon on the table, would be a Constitutional blow. I would hate it to see it come down to a dick measuring contest.

Zuma must be the example. Both Nigerians and Kenyans are praising the ruling because it shows that corruption can be decisively dealt with, albeit it is but mere progress. Don't make an example, and Zuma and his kin will continue to pillage and plunder. Yes, the corruption is violent, it has wrecked social responsibilities and cohesion - it is the ordinary citizens who are paying the price.

CR and Zuma hate each other.

He will most likely come up with some medical reason for avoiding prison. He is almost 80 now so his medical team will probably come up with something.

I believe they are more in disagreement than anything else, and there are matters they both agree on. Zuma cites medical concerns, then he can serve time in the medical ward. I doubt Zuma would want to be stuck in Nkandla even though he says that it is where he spends his time. The law would in any case seek to use Zuma as a tool to assist in convicting others.
