I have a strong feeling this offering is coming within the next couple of months...

Goddamnit:mad::mad:

Will they sell the blu-ray drives seperate or external for the xbox?
They should do it for free!!!

You should have bought a PS3 like all the smart people. :D

Hmmm... is it necesseary to have built in Blu-ray - this increases the overall cost of the Xbox and makes it less appetizing to buyers.

The Xbox 360 will never release games on Blu-ray so if they do release a BD drive it will only be external to keep the initial purchase as low as possible. I do say "if" though. Microsoft may wait until there next gen console for any such commitment - with XBox live, streaming, etc, etc it is not necessary to add an additional BD drive. Though MS may feel they need to replace the HD DVD drives :/

Nope, sorry for anyone who thinks it's a good idea but, Microsoft will not be putting BD in anything. They made almost nothing on the HD-DVD drive, and would make even less with a BD Drive.

Just think about it for a second. The lack of BD will be used to drop the price of the 360 and drive more units into the market - more 360's = more games sales + more XBLVM sales, all of which make MS big bucks as opposed to making pennies selling a $250 add-on, for which they make no royalties and will be obsolete by the end of he year when the price of stand alone players drop.

The big problem with 360 and blu-ray is that developers can't take advantage of it!
They can't be assured that a 360 user will have such a drive and rather then develop titles that will fit on a DVD.
No blu-ray titles mean users won't get blu-ray drives. And so it goes.

And as doobiwan said, blu-ray drives allready installed will just up the price of the xbox.

Xbox 360 with built-in Blue Ray. Not going to happen.

Perhaps the Xbox 720 will be something like that.

Remember Sony would have to licence the Blu-Ray technology to Microsoft, lets be honest who can see that happening?

It is all about money. You don't turn down a sale because you don't like someone.

This is the reason that MS won't release an internal BD drive. The only advantage is extra space on the disk, and developers won't be able to take advantage.

Companies are not fanboys. BD already licenses VC-1 from Microsoft and, even after the HD war, Toshiba and Sony are still best buds collaborating on new chip manufacturing processes and plants.

"Xbox next" may very well have a BD drive, it may also offer something more. You never know what's going to come around in order to drive UHD TV's and there's still 3 years to find out.

I have to agree with the majority here, there will never be a Xbox 360 with a built in Blu-Ray drive (unless it's some weird limited special thing)..

However the next Xbox will have a HD drive of some sort... Blu-Ray or HVD
