Will MWEB utilize WACS? (Improved UK Latency)?

Those number sound exceedingly optimistic. If it shaves 15% off existing pings then I'll be surprised. It follows +- SAT3 route so the ping will be broadly similar.

Also, calculating ping by distance doesn't work at all. Try it with existing routes & their known pings.

Sorry.

The express route is a one way, no termination link, it might be bigger though? 15% is nice.

ok from a source, they tested wacs today got about 120ms to 8.8.8.8, not sure how true it is.

test was done with neotel fiber link.

Will be great if that stays the same under real world conditions. I fear though that once you add a little load & lose the fibre we're back to square 1. Fingers crossed though.

yep i asked him why is so much better then sat3, he said sat 3 is old tech, and this new tech does help with ping, though both is the speed of light?

Yup, afaik if you are as close as possible to being directly on SAT3 the latency is around 150-160ms (someone from tenet). Also, neither is 'the speed of light', they are both 'the speed of light in OC glass', which is about 30% slower than in a perfect vacuum.

Welp..all we can do now is wait and see which ISP buys into this beast.

Er, doesn't WACS have mucho capacity?

Busy looking at going uncapped from next month. Am on axxess mothers day special at the moment if Mweb was to start using wacs bandwidth i will switch over to you guys in a heartbeat.

Latency also depends on routing tables and how many routers your packet goes through.

Why are so many folks thinking that MWEB's traffic will NOT be routed via WACS? As one of the largest ISPs in Africa they will definitely be looking at it.

Sub 200 ping to Europe would take Mweb gaming to the next level. They would garner so much support and new sign ups from that ......... *holds thumbs*
