Seeing that many people are cancelling (except for some of us who're still on contract for another 12 months) , if the number of clients goes down so much such that it won't be worth it to even provide the service , would Sentech be forced to throw in the towel and shut down?

Hi Ejbengine

I just had a look at the Sentech MyWireless survey so far, and the feedback does not look too optimistic for them. I am not certain if the scrapping of the Classic packages was such a great idea. It was also interesting to see that most respondents are on classic packages, so Sentech’s decision to discontinue these packages is a massive risk.

Regards,

RPM

I hope so. We don't need their type around here.

I think what will probably happen is that they'll be forced to shut down because they're too stupid to run the service. Perhaps someone like Richard Branson would buy their network from them and run it like a proper businessman.

VirginWireless... doesn't that sound nice?

Edited to add a response to rpm: it was a massive risk but also incredibly stupid to take away the ONLY reason people chose to sign up for their slop.

Sentech aren't iBurst. Their wireless internet access has always only made up a tiny fraction of their total business. They *are* the government parastatal which controls a hell of a lot of radio and analogue television broadcasting in the country.

What would be proverbial suicide for iBurst is biting one's lip for Sentech...

ummm...Sentech...shut down/close??
No way.

There goes your radio,TV,satelite bla bla bla...They are the provider of those class of things(AFAIK) so i do not see them Closing down just because their Internet service to the public failed. Maybe they have something up their sleeve?

just have to wait and see.

Must say, really stupid move to like cancel your internet package that attracts the most users!! Almost just as good as Telkom dropping support for analogue telephone lines. Really bad idea.

Maybe I didnt express myself clearly, but what I meant was the closure of their internet business

Sentech is THE signal distributor for the South African broadcasting sector.

Some products &services:
MyWireless
VSTAR
Signal Distribution
Direct-To-Home/VIVID
International Telephony
Satellite Connectivity Products
Other Products and Services

IOW, they provide you with TV, radio, worldwide/local satellite communication etc etc...
edit:
I dont think they'll even close down their Internet business, AFAI heard they had big plans....

*sigh*

You know what? I'm getting way too involved in this debate again. All I can say is I will be advising everyone I know to steer clear of MyWireless, and that I am happy not to have to use it any more.

The end :)

oh but there is one born every minute, i'll just be doing my part, anyone seeking advise from me will be told to keep clear off MyWireless.

I haven't seen any Sentech MyWi adverts on TV.IBurst have been bombarding us on all the channels, and topped it up with the Survivor(i'm not watching that) connection

No of course they won't shut down! They're government which is exactly why they have never given a s...! If they had any brains at all they'd have employed people with enough intelligence to correctly configure the network. Instead they've done the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Thrown the baby and the bath water down the drain. What astute business accumen!!

I dont think its Sentech as a whole that will be ****ting down - i think that there's a stron possibility that they might just shut down thier internet service

Think about it, if that were the case, wouldnt it be better to get all its customers to leave rather than throwing in the towel and mayby be liable to refund thier customers for obsolete modems and equipment
