I currently have 384 kbps adsl and buy data on a monthly basis from Afrihost. The last few days Mweb and Afrihost have shaken up things quite a bit and I am now thinking of upgrading to a 4Mbps line. At the moment I spend between R500 - R600 a month on internet in total so it will be a stretch to R910 for the Afrihost package. Telkom might or might not upgrade the lower end packages soon, maybe they will up the 512 kbps package to 4 Mbps? This is will save quite a lot of money, as upgrading to a 4Mbps now will mean that they probably will upgrade me to an 8 Mbps package which will be too pricey if I want to buy 8Mbps uncapped. Now my questions to the more knowledgeable people here on the forums are:

1. Do you guys think Telkom will bring us substantial upgrades worth waiting for?
2. Do you think it will be within the next month or two?

Personally I cannot see the above happening. Telkom have not mentioned anything official about these lower end upgrades yet, they have mentioned the 4Mbps upgrade trials etc and have document their plans to go up to 12 Mbps. Also, if they do it before the World Cup it will place unnecessary strain on their network. They might just up the 4 Mbps package as this will make them "look on par with the rest of the world". I hope I am wrong, what do you guys think?

I hope so but until there is something official regard it as "imminent"...

my opion is that telkom gone wait for world cup to finish and only then do the upgrades rather than risk something going wrong on the network while world cup is on

384 users have been asking this for years to no avail. Unless Telkom gives an official notice to this effect I wouldn't hold my breath.

384k and 512k needs to go. The minimum should be at least 1mb. IMO

The gap between 512k and 4mb is way too large.
