Geez, country is in the toilet and we have to have stupid public holidays in the work week? Celebrate it on a Sunday when most people are not at work. People can celebrate their heritage without needing to get paid to do it. Also 24/9 was actually for the Zulu nation to celebrate Shaka. ANC just wanted yet another paid day off to put further strain on the economy.

How's about they come up with a new public holiday called I-appreciate-being-employment-and-am-willing-to-work-for-normal-rates Day. Or should that not be every other work day in the year?

You are just muf because you use a gas braai.

Your great-granny's culture though, from what I've heard.
Nope. My great great great granny was married to a viking - So if anything needs to be celebrated it would be the raid of Lindisfarne.

Can't do ti but I do support the initiative. There is something extremely human about people coming together and cooperating - and this is no exception. We can focus on all the negative things the ANC and CR has done - and out of spite ignore this call. The trick is to look for where initiatives are beneficial and not to throw the baby out with the bathwater. What this country needs is more reasons to unite us - not to divide us. Videos of people of all races taking part in the Jerusalema dance - it is a very powerful image. Hopefully those that are bound by hate (on all sides of the racial and gender spectrum) can drop that for a bit and take part in something that brings us together as humans - rather than finding a reason for division.
