I saw some of those rings go for 30k+ that is expensive!

Lol... Good. But we are quite a long way from the big day... I need to go 'ngiyocela' (ask for permission) which is a formality, pay lobola after which there are at least three more events pbefore the wedding... Zulu culture...Bit if all goes well... You will know and I will explain every step and its significance here... And I might reserve a few seats for some guys here who haven't been to a proper Zulu wedding...

I say full steam ahead, but stop leaving your socks on the table and making her clean up after you. That would be a pain the ass for most people.

Yes... She is Swati... So they subscribe to similar cultural stuff as us... Like Ndebeles for example... It's Nguni clan... We must do it... And I enjoy it when done correctly...

Jewellery shops will generally discount stuff about 40% from the sticker price anyway so 25 isn't great. Shop around...
 
I got a R30k ring for R6k at a closing down sale. Go to places that have more than one jewelry shops. The market is against them at the moment. Stay away from American Swiss and places. Go to shops that are not as well known... And please learn about stones before you go buy. Jewelry shops can be worse than lawyers

Congrats.. men think they have to spend 30k on a ring.. hell I wouldnt mind it if it was 5k, shows that the man really actually loves you! If you love someone, show it to them!

Cool, it's always good to hear stories like this... my advice? Ask her already! :)
Is it important to your family that she be Zulu? Is it important to you? We're in the 21st century and I say go for it.

You and your family enjoy negotiations and let us know how that all goes. Hopefully the fact that she's a doctor doesn't make you poor before you tie the knot :D

I suspect lobola can set you back more than the ring - am I wrong? I just hope it's all reasonable. Newly weds don't need huge debt before they start IMO.
