Oh I could figure it out, but it was a bit of a ball ache without now commonplace things like a dual sim phone, expensive South African networks data roaming costs and lack of widespread public WiFi. I'm sure I mentioned it a couple of posts ago.

But hey, nowadays though it's great. 20gb on your Truphone eSim and WhatsApp and you can go anywhere and every where on the same number. Erm, I'm sure I mentioned that before as well.

Oh well, but congrats on learning kettles. My 2 year old struggled with the on button for a while so I can well imagine the average American having a bit of a hard time with them. Good job! ;)

It's hard to convince people to pay for something if you and others created the idea of it's free.
Running an app like telegram costs money, I don't see any problem paying for it, if it means I'm not the product anymore.

1. Groups can have thousands of members (I think unlimited or to the point of irrelevance).
2. Edit messages
3. Pinning messages on top in groups, so that every time loadshedding start, the same retards don't have to ask for the schedule for the 10th time.

I see a lot of places talking up the speed of 220V kettles, but most of the ones I've used in SA have been closer to 2000W (vs the 1500W of the US). So it's a little bit faster but nothing like double the speed that people suggest.

Yeah. Americans have that quirky habit of using gas to boil water for coffee, tea, etc. It's 50% cheaper and 50% faster than using electricity, and the capital cost of the kettle is 50% lower than an electric one. Strange people, eh.

Checks as still widely used, mainly because most ordinary people are honest. Deposits are easy: simply snap a pic of the cheque in your mobile's banking app, and viola! Funds deposited.
 
Most people either don't use Telegram, or tried it for a few minutes, saw it's the same as Whatsapp at first glance, then went back to Whatsapp.

The vote should rather have been for current Telegram users specifically, not "everyone", as we're primarily seeing that most folks here don't use Telegram.

I use Telegram more than any other app and while I don't need the premium for anything, I have always wanted to support them financially for a great service.

Folks who don't know what the "fuss" is about just haven't delved deep enough into what is all available on the platform.

Be it PC or Mobile, if I was allowed to install only 1 app it'd 100% be Telegram.
You can get almost anything on there content wise and there are Telegram bots for dozens of services - eg:

@TheFeedReaderBot - The Feed Reader Bot monitors RSS feeds, Twitter, Youtube, etc and sends messages when new posts are available.

You can watch the Youtube vids / content directly in the chat without leaving Telegram. (No Youtube ads)


URL Uploader bot - send a link to the bot, and it replies with the file which you can then download from Telegram (bypassing browsing restrictions or other issues).

Popular Twitter accounts are mirrored on Telegram, eg. Elon Musk.
Joe Rogan podcasts are uploaded in mp3 format
Movies, music, series, books, etc are plentiful.
You have text to speech and speech to text bots/services.
Mybroadband channel posts the latest news.

People forget quickly that WhatsApp started as a paid for service.

Most people just forgot they paid for it once upon a many moons ago.

Besides group size, which is less of an issue now on WA (I do now even want to attempt to admin 1000+ users), most of what you have said is of zero interest

It certainly feels less private, announcing to everyone and co that I have arrived and even got spam.
 
No thanks. I'll continue to use the free version. I don't need the bells and whistles.
