Hi all
I need some help. I was on Mweb's WiMax trial, untill ICASA pulled them out in JHB, I am now stuck with their equipment on my roof and no way to use them. I thought it may be possible to use my ADSL Username and password but it was to no avail. I logged into the "router thingy". and it seems I have no Basestation to connect to. I used to connect to the Sandton Basestation. Which Basestation can I now use?
thanks

Sadly you can't use any other Base Station - the process would require activation and you won't get that from another Tower with M Web's equipment

Thanks For the info. But what else can I do with the equipment? Can I maybe use it to join JAWUG or something:confused:

Nope.. wont work on the Wugs.
Its in a licensed frequency...

Its been Just under a year now, and I'm still sitting with Mweb's Wimax stuff, No active connections still. Do I get to keep the equipment? Will Mweb Ever want it back? Can I now use any other basestations?

Firstly, each Wimax provider uses a particular vendors equipment and they are not interoperable. If you wanted to use your Wimax equipment you would have to find a provider who used the same vendors equipment as the equipment you have at your house.

Secondly, even if your equipment was compatible with another Wimax provider's basestations, you can't just magically connect to their basestation and hope for the best. You would have to have an account with them, they would have to provision service to you and allow your CPE to connect to their basestation.

You could try email Screamer, IBurst or Telkom to see what Wimax vendors they use and see if it's compatible with what they have. Assuming it was, you would then need to subscribe to their service assuming they allowed you to use your own equipment.

But first...make sure Mweb is not going to want it back.:D
