So many moons ago when still running Win 7 I paired a PS3 Bluetooth BD Media Remote to my computer, it has been working flawlessly since with PS3BluMote, even after updating to Windows 10.

Yesterday I got a new Bluetooth dongle because I wanted one that supports Bluetooth 4 and APTX audio, all installs fine. Then I need to pair the PS3 Bluetooth BD Media Remote with the new Bluetooth dongle, I put the PS3 remote into pairing mode and it's discovered fine, I'm so happy because it's all so easy and smooth and then an abrupt full stop, windows asks for the pass key of the device and there is no "No Passkey" option, pairing fails. The "No Passkey" option was there in past Windows versions, no clue why it's been removed, the PS3 Bluetooth BD Media Remote doesn't use a default pass key like "0000" "1234" etc, I don't think it even uses a pass key at all.

I've looked all over google but it looks like there is no solution to this retarded situation, has anyone managed to pair a Bluetooth device with Windows 10(it was possible with older versions on Windows) without a pass key?

Did you try empty pass key?

I think passkey is stored in the Bluetooth device itself, not in Windows. When changing dongle, a new pairing is required, it is obvius. Some suggestions in these steps:

1. Uninstall drivers to the new dongle, remove new dongle.

2. Uninstall driver for the old BT device. If it is a built-in device, disable it in Device Manager or in your system BIOS (better). Then start over.

3. If doesn't help, try System Restore to the point before installing new drivers, then try whether is is still working using old BT device. You may be satified if you get old device working after all.

4. Try different dongle, follow #2.

There is no option to not use a passkey on Windows 10, the next button is greyed out till a passkey is typed in.

I tested and the old dongle is still paired and working with the Ps3 remote.

Follow #4.

[EDIT] #5. Try to pair new dongle on a different PC running Win7.

It's not the dongle it's windows 10, I'm just fortunate I paired the remote when I was still on Windows 7 and that wasn't lost when I upgraded to 10.

I need a work around with 10.

Read my first post. Unless I am being wrong, it should work in this way: If you do pairing on Windows 7 with a new dongle and then move the dongle to Windows 10 machine, it should be still paired.

The device pairing is stored in the windows OS not the Bluetooth dongle?

So I'm assuming there is no simple way around around this impasse?

Most be some hack to force pairing with no passkey, run some sort of cmd script??

I can't believe this ridiculous situation :(
Such a simple thing and neigh impossible

Finally found the solution to this god awful Microsoft problem.Turns out it is still possible to pair a BT device with Win 10 but as is typical with MS you have to use a illogical super arcane method.

If you use the typical right click BT icon in system tray - add Bt device it opens the new Win 10 settings window for adding a BT device, going that way it will not allow pairing without a pass code, rather you have to access the old Control panel devices menu and add a new device via there, then you can leave the passcode empty and it still pairs. Managed to pair my PS3 remote no issue - relief!!

Use the Add to Personal Area Network feature to access the old control panel. Here's how:

1. Right click the Bluetooth icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and select Add to Personal Area Network.
2. On the top-left corner of the screen, click Add a Device.
3. Put the BT device into pairing mode(On the PS3 remote its hold start and enter buttons) and wait for the device to appear. When it appears, select it and click Next, you may have to repeat this before the bt device is picked up.
4. Leave the PIN text box blank, and click Next.

7yrs later and fkn Win 11 has broken this hack because now when you use the old Control Panel to add a Bluetooth device instead of opening the old Add Device window it jumps to the new Settings add device window that won't pair without a pin.

Long shot but does anyone know of a way around this on Win 11, maybe a regedit hack?
