Win 7 Desktop Shortcut does not show

Hi all, I have a problem whereby I had a shortcut of an excel worksheet(xisx) on my desktop. I updated it and added a new title and after deleting the old one made a desktop shortcut which doesn't show. It's driving me bonkers and would really appreciate some help.

Sorry guys it seems like I didnt describe my problem correctly. I can locate the file but not the shortcut. I know how to make the shortcut (right click and sent to desktop). I have done this several times but it does not appear on my desktop.
