I'm getting tired of the many updates that my Win8 64bit laptop finds when running Windows Update

The below shows todays' recommended updates .. and is typical of the many updates found every couple of days. I check for updates manually, and do not allow auto-update. I have unchecked the updates related to IE as I use Chrome as my browser.

Is it really necessary to regularly update all the files as suggested in the image below?

I checked mine it's the same as yours and I just updated last week.

90% of the filesize of Windows 8.1 is going to be the weekly cumulative fixes.

I also have 64-bit Win8 with Office 2013, on several systems. The latest update is a large one. But Patch Tuesday is only once a month.

I understand that any OS will need updates. But Win8 seems excessive in the frequency, and number, of important updates.

Might get less updates after the Windows 8.1 release....or more, depending on how polished the 8.1 patch is. :)

I do not really care about the updates; at least MS is keeping the OS updated and the MS security up to date.

All I know is that I really appreciate Win 8, when I converted to the AeroLite theme (Love the Look & Feel) and with the Reviver Start Menu installed. Everything is so smooth now.

AeroLite theme! Damn, I haven't laugh this many since I was a children. :D

It's Windows 7 Basic theme, silly. ;)
