Do yourself a favour if you do a fresh install after doing a upgrade to Win10. Find the Win10 Key you have on the upgraded computer and make a note of it.

I made the mistake of not having it and when it came to put in the key, the only one I had was my Win7 key which wouldn't work.
I got it installed without a key and then had to do a live chat with some Microsoft person who did a remote connection and after about 30 minutes finally activated Win10 and gave me the key for future.

I have a mobo/ram/cpu/gpu lying in the boxes on the floor, now I need to get that setup and instal all over again. Is it to early for beer :D
1. Don't do online upgrade. It used to crash after downloading ESD file. It will subsequently delete this file, so 3GB download is wasted.
2, Download ISO compatible with your version, or download Media Download Tool, it will take care to get the right version. Do not select "install to USB", etc. Make it save as ISO file on your hard drive.
3. Open ISO file and run setup program in the root folder.
4. Do not do system updates, just select "upgrade to Win10"

For advanced users: Instead #3,#4, copy "gatherosstate.exe" to your hard drive and run. Backup a resulting file "genuineticket.xml" and read other posts how to use it. :)

I'm up and running, not without licensing issues though.

I upgraded the old machine to 10 first and activated
Then built the new one and did a fresh instal of 10 from a usb thumb drive.
Went off without a hitch quite quickly.

I had both my license keys, for Win 7 and Win 10( after the upgrade) handy.
Went to activate and it would have none of it.

Ended up on the phone with microsoft going through the motions and that got me sorted, so its up and going, thanks.

Another little question.
It seems on the home version you cannot stop windows from dl'ing updates by itself????
There is no option to rather be notified first.

I see in the pro version there is some flexibility, but not home.

Anyone got a work around for that?

Nope, nothing you can do to change that, except roll back to Windows 7. That's one of the drawbacks of Windows 10, and with Professional, the only option I get is to defer major upgrades and/or OS updates. Critical and security updates will come through all the same.
