My dad still use win98se.
Inserting a memory stick, it does not know what it is.
Do you get a general driver, program or what.
I fought memory sticks have a driver file on them.

And where will I get it.
Computer not on net.

The motherboard does have usb ports.
When inserting it win ask for the driver cd/file.
are you sure?

You will need to get a driver from the flashdisk's website, thats if they made a win98 driver for it.

Some older flash drives had win98 drivers, not sure about the newer ones

+1
Which make/model flash drive is it? My dad-in-law also still uses Win98 and I had to get the USB installation software from Kingston so I could copy some data onto his PC from my flashdisk.

There is a Universal USB Memory Stick/flashdrive driver that I downloaded a year back but cant find the link to. PM me your e-mail address and I'll mail it tomorrow morning.

If you can't get hold of a win98 driver for your flash drive, try this general driver. I use these on a daily basis.

Uninstall any usb drivers you installed, remove all controllers under usb controllers in your device manager and restart pc. Install the driver you downloaded once the host controllers have been detected and installed. Insert your flash drive and let it search for the driver. Remove any ticks that would select or point to a location.

AFAIK '98 does not support USB

I recall that SE does support memory sticks. I used to walk around with a small cd that came with the memory stick :D.

Edit: @Robertvv what brand is the stick? I also might have a driver for you.

Wow... the thought of upgrading from 98 to Windows 7. It would be like travelling to the future.

Welcome to the real world. There are many businesses that still run software that will only work under Win98 or there is no need to upgrade to the latest. If a business / factory have 50 pc's, why upgrade pc's and OS if the current ones are doing fine. Many of the software packages needed to run their business can be very expensive, R30k >. Why then upgrade hardware and software and then force you to buy a new package, if you can still use the old stuff?
It is mostly games and graphic intensive programmes that force us to buy bigger and better. Take those 2 out of the equation and there are little reason for upgrading hardware and software.
If you only need to type a letter and receive and emails every now and then, Win95 will still be good enough or even pc's older than that era.

Yes, I think you correct regarding going from Win98 to Win7. it would be a killer I think.
:p

Thanks for all the feedback.
He stay 200km away from me.
Will only see him in May again.
He only use word and excel,[ write storie book, letters, etc] so I decide, win98 is good enough for him.
I wanted to install a program that is 827mb big, and he only have a cd rom, so I copy it on someone's memory stick and then win98 wanted the driver.
