Hey Guys,

Im looking for somewhere that does window tinting, in Johannesburg CBD or in Germiston.
Prefereably not to expensive, but they need to do a good job. The car i want tinted is a 2006 Polo 1.9TDi, the two door version.

Thanks

I had mine done at PG Autoglass for about R1500.

You're not going to get cheap + good job + good quality film :)

Yeah, i got quotes 1600 from them... =/ ...

Also, what is the legal limit for the tinting? im presuming its 35%, as that is the highest that PG offers?

Yeah I went for the darkest one they offered, not sure what the percentage was. But it's dark enough not to be able to see through at night.

oh, and correct me if im wrong, but i believe that the higher the % the darker it is? am i right in saying this?

To be successful, tinting needs to be applied in a dust-free room. Even a tiny spec will cause problems. See your applier is TIDY and dust free (washes floor, closes doors etc etc). Unfortunately this rules out the small business who comes to your home to do it.
DO NOT skimp on quality. Easy to see how many tinting-jobs turn purple after awhile. Phone Worldmark 011-5420600 for local suppliers.
I had the most expensive tint (with a metal content) put on the front windows. The difference in heat transmission between front and the back windows (darker tint but cheaper material) is amazing. Worth every cent.. Fantastic
At traffic lights, hawkers mostly walk right past us because they cannot see in. This is therefore a safety feature.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the Smash-n-grab-proofing is even more sought-after than the tinting feature.
If I did it again I would go for the darkest tint, but with the metal content even tho it is not legal. (Someone warned me about insurance problems in case of an accident. ??? )

I'd say it looks good. Had it for about 3 years now and it still looks new - no bubbling or anything. It also keeps most of the UV radiation out during the day, I can't recall the last time I felt that the sun was burning me :D

Here's a pic at night:

Lol, looks really good.
I like your rims, are they cross polo rims? where'd you get them, if i may ask?

Got mine from place in edenvale for 1k. Gf had her car done, and her friend got from there, and her friends friend etc. With the friends friend they tried to break into his citigolf and basically had to use a crowbar to try get the window out. Saved the friend from a smash and grab as well (could get through). Gf reversed into something and her back windscreen was pretty much held intact, drove around for 2 weeks with the glass broken but still in place even.

Just had my 2010 Cerato's tinting done at Glasfit. Outsurance clients receive a 10% discount, so it cost me just over R1,300. This comes with a 10 year warranty against bubbling or peeling.
