Windows 10 64bit 8GB RAM installed 3.98GB usable?

Pc is on a ups so I'll look for a newer bios next.

Anybody know if the memory controller resides in the cpu or if it's part of the MB chooser? Thinking of reseating the cpu as well but forgot to bring thermal paste with me.

Memory controller is in the cpu.
 
Are you sure the motherboard or the RAM slots aren't forked? Can you get another 4GB RAM module to test with?
 
this is normally an indication of a motherboard that is failing. had the same thing happen with a new Ryzen build.

had to swap out the motherboard to get it fixed.
 
yeah even though he tested each slot the board is not activating the dual channel memory lane, which means the communication between the memory controller and the board is not functioning properly, that is why its reserving one DIMM as non useable memory.

Yes, I'll do one last excercise of reseating the cpu tomorrow just incase after I was told today the pc got knocked off it's pedestal. If still no joy then it will be a new mb/cpu/ram combo in the persons future....

You know, it being an AMD actually explains it all..... they have their memory controllers on the chip not the mobo

Same goes for Intel. You'll see I asked earlier if the memory controller was part of the MB or CPU as I could not remember how far back they switched to an IMC...
