Can someone please help me to stop windows from restarting itself.

I've tried so many guides and no matter what I do, many times I come back to my pc and windows have rebooted without saving anything.

I've got VMs running, they just get aborted, my browser sessions are gone and god forbid I didn't save my 3d designs before getting up from my pc.

It drives me absolutely bonkers.

Code:
(128) 12/02/2025 10:44:15 Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-General 13 (2) BINX 4 The operating system is shutting down at system time ‎2025‎-‎02‎-‎12T08:44:15.864885900Z.

I have scheduled restarts off.

And updates set not to restart automatically:

Any help appreciated!

Windows professional or home, I bought professional so I could schedule updates. But this was years ago.

Not in IT. So take it with a pinch of salt.

Thanks, forgot to mention I do have pro. Turn it off. Fake news.

My macbook is my daily work machine, 8 hours a day. For 7 years now. It also restarts by itself killing containers and vms without consideration. Still prefer Windows though. For some reason.

The only people I have seen using Apple laptops/products at all the companies I worked for over the years, were the company directors.

Workers get windows laptops. And by workers, I mean all employees who are not directors.

Maybe not the case at small businesses, but at most large companies, windows laptops are standard.

Based on the information provided, I don't think Windows Updates is the main culprit of reboots here.

Running multiple VM's and having multiple websites open while using an 3D imaging program is going to seriously strain the resources on any computer, regardless of make.
Odds are that either the machine is running out of usable memory or some drivers or libraries are clashing because they need to access the same resources or use the same interrupts or access the same areas of memory... which causes the kernel to go into panic mode and then the OS reboots as a safeguard to prevent any or further data corruption.

Thanks. I've got 11 GB RAM available, CPU is idling even while I'm using the machine. This happens always when I'm away. Windows is normally good with dealing with over resourced machines. I did quote the event log entry confirming that it was an update restart in the op.

This was one of the main reasons I moved to Linux - my work machine has not restarted once in over 1 year other than by choice when required (hardware/moving/etc)

I run Windows 10 in a VM for a few Windows only apps; that VM restarts randomly for updates and the occasional crashes :)

Using Ubuntu on desktop and Fedora on laptop - happy with both and no issues with either.

The event log entry shown only states that the machine was shutting down at a specific date and time, it didn't specify how it was initiated. (by hand, scheduled shutdown or via application/service)
If the reboot was initiated because of updates then you would have WindowsUpdateClient entries before the restart in the event log where the updates were installed. (also under System log)

You also didn't mention whether these reboots occur on a monthly, weekly or daily basis and what build version of Windows 10 you are using.

Wouldn't it say unexpected shutdown then? As if it was overheating etc

At start up it would say that the previous shutdown was unexpected yes.

Okay, on second thought that rules out BSOD's if the event log still has time to write a shutdown entry.

Edit: Ah nevermind, I realise now that it is exploit-Wednesday today. So it will be updates that is the cause then. My bad.

Are you sure it's Automatic Updates rebooting it and it's not just shitting it's own pants because you know...Windows?

Well then it can't be updates.

Is this a corporate device? I would imagine not because then your options would have been greyed out.
