Windows 10: Convert VL to OEM

Finally getting new mobo & cpu next week... want to upgrade win7 to win10 this weekend to prepare, have had success in the past with simply transplanting HDD's and having the OS boot.... win7 almost never boots after a HDD transplant and the new mobo requires win10 anyway.

Now I want to in mean time cause I got a OEM licence (from @Flashgear) and I wanna activate the temp OS with KMS Auto Lite which requires using the tool to convert whatever channel the OS is to VL. Then later after the transplant activate for real using the licence key..... it's easy to convert anything to VL it seems (tested in VM) but can you convert it back to OEM?

I can wait too but out of pure curiosity I asking this as well as wanting to use the weekend to get this done.

Interesting, neva heard of it before. Apparently the author put it on github because so many chinese groups were faking it and adding malware. Will try tomorrow in a VM.

I'm not quite following but if you have a legit win7 key that still activates, let it activate. Then just disconnect the unit from the internet and run windows 10 setup from within win7. When you're finally in win10 re connect to internet and it will activate 99.9999% of the time. They left that backdoor wide open.

You should be able to use an activation tool, some have the option to "rearm" the activation, this means it will clear all activations.

Microsoft toolkit has this option.

The win7 is not legit no..... Daz loader. This will be the first time since win7RC that I will be running a legit windows again hahaha.

Yep but AFAIK Windows 10 will not upgrade a non-activated installation. Interesting thread will be worthwhile to know the outcome.

I would just borrow an old windows 7 key and activate the windows that way after rearming

Rearm does not always work..... especially with Office 2010 I remember.

Holy moly the Oct 4, 2018 version (0.5) of the hwidgen toolkit allows you to pretty much have your way with win10 activation and licencing.... it's not perfect and it has a tendency to not re-enable network connections but still it's amazing M$ never patched this glaring vulnerability.

Only tested in a VM so far. Gonna test if upgrade from a DAZ win7 still activates win10 like it did years ago next, obviously in a VM. (EDIT: yes it still works.... no worries then I guess).

I wonder though does M$ store a activation record by hardware ID and/or store account? They probably do and playing around with activation might leave one vulnerable to bullying in the future if they ever turn mean....

To add more possibly critical detail though, I used a AIO from gen2 to do the update and chose the DLA install. Dunno what happens with M$ iso's and frankly at this point in the day I'm far too lazy to test that too. (Edit: Mind you the DLA option might have had hwidgen active for all I know... dammit more testing in my future, sorry for the brainfart, my brain took the weekend off with me it seems.)

OK nvm the previous laziness, did my due diligence and tested with first manually activated daz and then M$ iso.... activates fine but for some reason while win7 did good vmware oem branding win10 does a few logo's and no blackground(EDIT2: redid the test with the AIO, branding stayed, think it's because the M$ ISO does not allow you to expressly select OEM on install but that's more of a ei.cfg issue probably).... will be doing the actual install tomorrow I think.

EDIT: one odd thing I DID notice was if you had vmware tools installed in win7 the new drivers refuse to install in win10.....
