Good morning.

Windows 10 64-bit

I had a short or something on my graphics card which caused my PC not to come on. I replaced the screen card yesterday evening and pc boots up. But, for some reason it does not boot through. It boots just up to where the circling dots appear. A couple of seconds after that the screen goes of and displays the message that it is unplugged.

I once was lucky enough to get with F8 into safe boot mode and I got in and everything was there. From there I installed the drivers for the new screen card and restarted. The same thing happens now every time.

Can anyone please help me with advise on how to get into my machine again. Since the lucky shot I had by entering with F8 I was not able to do it again. Is it possible to download something from the net to boot from USB?

I think it's worth saying that when troubleshooting what might be wrong with my computer, I switched it on and off with nothing connected to it. When I noticed the fan coming on, I kept the power button pressed until it switches off. This I have done a couple of times. The hard drives were connected but nothing else. It may be possible that I damaged some files?

Please help me out. This is my work computer and I need to make quotations.

Thank you.

Yea, if you ever have a problem like this try making onboard display the primary and see if it boots up.

You might have to copy your data onto another hard drive and reinstall Windows. I have seen similar scenarios with Windows 7 and 8 and after hours of fiddling, had to do a complete reinstall

If you have an ISO copy or a bootable USB stick, a reinstall won't delete your docs, but I would back up to be sure

Thank you for the replies. My answers below.

1. Unfortunately no on-board screen card.
2. I do have a NAS with all my data backed up.
3. 1st Option would be to able to get in. Is there another way for Safe Boot other than doing it from windows?

Thank you very much again.

If you interrupt booting Windows few times (press and keep power switch till power goes off) it will eventually give you boot menu. However I suggest to use some spare cheapo card for testing. It could be the motherboard faulty as well.

Did you buy a new or used card?

From what i've read after having the same issue as you windows 8 and 10 passes the window where it will detect the f8 key too fast so your timing literaly has to be perfect to get it right.

Turn fast boot off in your bios and also the splash screen if you have the option so you can see when it finishes post and start loading windows. It might help you timing.

Weird how you got F8 to work, but try this ....

You can get to the same settings when booting from DVD/USB

Once back on desktop make sure ALL software for old card is removed ... even under "msconfig" & "task manager startup"
