Unless Microsoft decide to cheat on you again. You can switch off updates for 3 months at a time if you have Pro installed, means you can plan your updates for a more convenient time or when you have access to cheap data.
This was true, Microsoft now "fixed it" that the fetch from LAN works, just that it only fetches parts, not the whole thing. Haven't seen it in an offline setting though, and I doubt Sajunky has either. These are dirty tricks, you don't need do that?
In case you are innocent, lets add, these are two different things. The first one is in Windows setting which promise people to update PC's from other PC's. It doesn't work and I said that, but you later wrote otherwise, hence my correction. The other one is setting up WSUS server on your LAN as it is done by IT professionals, perhaps you should try.

It doesn't apply to Defender updates.

I would consider it quite dumb not to allow Windows Defender to fetch definition updates, those are malware lists it protects against. They should be tiny as well, maybe a couple of megs a month.
That is exactly what I said. Microsoft cheats you on multiple options and not a single one is bounding, so MS is cheating on you, as I said. This was true, Microsoft now "fixed it" that the fetch from LAN works, just that it only fetches parts, not the whole thing.
Microsoft Defender untested updates are extremely dangerous. So called virus definition files are really executable modules running in NT_System authority. There were already vulnerabilities in Defender detected by third-parties (not Microsoft), it can be more, especially in the situation when Spectre is not 100% fixed.I would consider it quite dumb not to allow Windows Defender to fetch definition updates, those are malware lists it protects against. How so? The problem is more along security, one device compromised so you'll have all devices compromised by that patch. By getting parts and checking them, you can see if there are any issues with the update fetched. That is exactly what I said. Technically I don't see a reason for"virus definition files" to be so dangerous, but with Microsoft they are indeed.
^^^ This. Very useful utility - used it many times in the past, but nowadays my 200GB/month is more than enough to not worry about using it. Still pretty useful if you want to set up a computer quickly with all the latest updates on a new install.
