Is anyone running on or tried an HP microserver?

I know each Windows version has generally been less bloated and requires less resources than the version before. I'm running Windows 8.1 now with no issues (4GB RAM and an SSD) and its good, but wondering if 10 will be better?

Don't know...but I'd be *very* surprised if its not equal or better than win 8.1

That being said...don't think the improvement is worth the hassle of an upgrade so I'd just chill for now

(Not based on experience...just an educated guess...one I'm pretty confident about though)

Its mostly the same. Running Windows 10 on a 11.6" Celeron dual-core with 2GB RAM and a 500GB HDD. The only benefits I've found are in the UI and app improvements, although some things like fixing drives using chkdsk in the command line run a little faster.

Overall, nothing too special for home server use for now. You can stay on 8.1.

Well the new browser on Win 10 (Project Spartan) is definitely much faster than IE on any platform.

As for it being faster than Win 8.1 , my laptop boots faster into Win 10 than Win 8.1 (both using the fast/hibernate booting effect). The rest of the performance seems similar BUT, since Win 10 no longer have this "charms" and "metro screen" it feels alot snappier when using Metro Apps.

Simple example, i use Plex and for the viewer i use the Plex Metro App. In Win 8.1 you have to go to that tile screen and run it there and then constantly have to wave your mouse in some dark corner to get back to the desktop (top left ) and right side to get to "search" etc.

In Win 10 all that stuff is gone, the Tile/Metro App sits on the Start Menu and opens like a normal app on the desktop (you just maximise/minimise it). Search is also on the taskbar, so no more charms in the right/top/corners nonsense.

So that alone makes Win 10 feel faster because i'm clicking/scrolling less and i'm not constantly switching between metro/desktop or trying to trigger charms.

Now of course, if you weren't using any Metro/Charms to begin with, and only used services running in the background / desktop apps running full screen, i guess you might not notice that much.

The Spartan Browser and the DX12 are defiantly the better part of Win 10.
But if you not using those then it probably makes next to no difference. But wait for the Final version as depending on your hardware the preview version may not be stable, but then again you may enjoy reloading your pc.

Must add, that microsoft got their updates nicely sorted, i've gone through 2 preview versions already without reloading my PC. It upgrades your windows automatically to the latest preview version (you need to enable a setting for this under updates). So no need to constantly re-download ISOs and re-installing.

I'm hoping this will continue into Beta / Release too, i don't see why not :)

Thanks for the replies!

But it'll be free when the final comes out, right?

Just thought it'll be great to have both my systems running Win 10 legit at no cost, assuming the weaker HTPC can handle
