Windows 10 prices in SA

I find it interesting that the one thing people aren't talking about are what effect this is going to have on bandwidth tomorrow, both at a user level and an ISP level.

Think about this, a corporate office with 200 users who all decide to upgrade at the same time needs to download 600gig worth of data. If they have 100mbit link into that office, that will flatline the link for 13.5 hours. Now put that in the context of a few million users in ZA alone... this is going to be fun :)

not changing the fact that ISPs like AH already are not coping...

The update doesn't download on metered networks. Someone would have to set their 3G connection to unmetered to make that happen, and that option is buried under three menu windows.

Eh? Corporate users don't allow updates from Microsoft to be downloaded for 200 machines, that's a terrible IT practice. No, they'll have the upgrade fed over their local WSUS caching server, so they'd only have to do something like 4GB for the entire package plus day one patches, and then roll that out to PCs in stages based on a small group of testers.

Also, keep in mind that since the 23rd, people have been downloading this in clumps every day during the maintenance window. Its not going to be a single 3.5GB download where everyone does it and it crashes Windows Update.
 
Hmm 3k is expensive, however previous editions of Windows were about the same price if I recall correctly.

Perhaps we should start a thread to let the community know if there is a windows 10 discount elsewhere?

ok I am running a legit copy of windows 8.1 on a few machines but it has not given me a upgrade pass is there somewhere that I can register for it
 
I just started. Had mine reserved but install didn't happen.

In the folder
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ there is a folder with today's date called. In that folder WindowsUpdateBox.exe. When you run it, it starts downloading Windows file in that same folder. Filesize is 2.7GB

Agree. Corporates first have to test their existing applications and make sure these work before they will "release" the updates. This could take upto a year or more in most corporates as they have to ensure that all their existing hardware can cope with the new OS.

Pppft. 3rd world problems


No corporate in their right mind Will let their users upgrade to w10 on day 1. Will take a good few months before they start rolling out.

It was a discounted upgrade, but for 3 or 4 days it was available for anyone to purchase and didn't even require a genuine copy of Windows. I have since done two clean installs with that Windows 8.1 Pro key without any trouble, and without needing to first install a previous version of Windows. During installation I was prompted both times to call an automated MS number and reset the activation status of the key.
