Windows 10 question

How do you then register ? I can't find a serial number and you can't buy it can you?
Are you upgrading, or doing a new installation?

If upgrading, first make sure the original Win7/8 is activated. Once that's done, Microsoft knows that machine config is licensed and activation after a clean install happens automagically. No need for a serial key. You can reinstall from scratch as many times as you like, without limit. For the life of the device.

If doing a new clean install, buy a key online. The installation process gives you the option. I did on one device, for R2299.

Use media creation tool to make the USB installation media. Upgrade the current win 7 or win 8 installation using the usb drive. Make sure it is activated once activated use the USB drive to do a clean install. This should work out to R0 for a clean install.

Indeed. My post above was in haste. Once you've upgraded a Win7/8 to Win10 (using the free online upgrade), clean installs will activate on that device. No need for a key once you've done the upgrade to Win 10 and that upgrade is activated.

From Microsoft.

Really Marine1 you know better than this...it should have been a single Google away.

They even give you the tool to make the USB flash drive with.

Since you want to do a clean install just re-install win 7 or 8 and activate than upgrade to 10 and then clean install 10
It's a pain but its better than paying R2k

My win 10 doesn't have a Brightness setting bar in the Display section. Why is that?
