No but this worked for me

1. delete everything in this folder
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

2. set update settings to
Install updates automatically (recommended)

3. open cmd as admin and run
wuauclt.exe /updatenow

The update instantly started and the bt folder was created.

well, i'm upgrading the work laptop now. finishing up on friday, and will disconnect my MSA account... will the laptop then be unactivated?

I heard free win10 licenses are Oem and therefore are not transferable. Microsoft is very vague about this stuff. This method will work if the license is retail.

They're not OEM, but perhaps OEM-like. They're tied to your device. MSFT has been very clear about that.

Wouldn't be surprised if they know that and you have endless hassles... Hope you don't.

i have hassles with it... although my 8... with the same kind of "license" went through fine... haven't check activation though...

let me do that

Just tried an experiment this morning. Upgrade using ISO, make sure it activates.
Do a clean install from the same ISO, completely wiping the old partitions. Skip the key entry, and it still activates. So it looks like it's tied to a hardware ID, independent of users. Between the upgrade and the clean install, only local users were used, and the username changed between them.

I was hoping to do a clean install from the start, but you need to do the upgrade procedure at least once.

Same with my desktop and laptop. Tried all the fixes and cures suggested on this thread and others in vain. Now I just wait.

I've just done two laptops. No issues - flawless update and all works fine. :)

So sorry to hear others are having probs. :(

Haven't done the Surface Pro 2 yet. Maybe tomorrow.

The drivers should update automagically. Give it some hours.

using the intel driver update utility already installed... downloading

got a fright about my office installation... opened excel... not activated... opened another window... did some stuff... close office app, restart them, working :D profit!

It seems like I made a lot of extra work for myself by upgrading to 10240. I'm stuck with a generic Windows 10 key and not sure if my copy will stay activated, my only option will probably be to revert back to 8.1 and then upgrade using the ISO to get a new key. :(
