@techead: did you us a Microsoft Account with your previous installation? If so, just click SKIP (near bottom left) when asked for the Win10 key. The system should activate after a few minutes.
For those with activation issues, try opening a command prompt as admin, and running slmgr /ato
I have been battling activating some legit installs, and running this command activated it. It took two tries on the one machine.

The moment any sort of video driver begins to install from the windows updates my PC freeze. Run driver remover in safe mode then windows startup normally.
Any advice on what the problem might be.
Has anyone done the upgrade via ISO method?

That toolkit should stop automatic updates, not sure if it works on the released though.
