Windows 10 Technical Preview - Insider Program

What annoys me is my mom's newish Packard Bell laptop with dual core Celeron asks for a product key!!! Granted I had to do a 1GB of windows updates before the Windows 10 icon appeared and I could reserve the upgrade. I tried the product key from ProduKey and it did not work either. Guess I'll have to let it simmer a few days before I try again. Unless someone has a solution?

It could be that the activation servers are still being hammered. 14 million installs and online activations in the last two days is a mammoth task to filter through properly.

does DAZ have access to the bios? Remeber DAZ does not work on Windows 8 & thats is why KMS came into play.

DAZ doesn't, or at least shouldn't, have any access to the key in your BIOS, only the OS should be capable of reading or even rewriting the key in the BIOS.

Anyone got a win7 activator that tricks the win10 installer? I've just downloaded everything onto my laptop to upgrade and turns out I installed ultimate on it instead of Home Premium so it's not activated... I really don't wanna reinstall 7, update it again and then re-download 10.

But doing that you would have to make the windows "illegal" to do the upgrade, XP & Vista can't "inherit" 10. There is no way getting that done "legit".
Actually above posts indicate otherwise. Microsoft got already paid for their product and I think they will silently tolerate upgrades from the earlier (fully licenced) versions. DAZ didn't work on Windows 8, but it activates on Windows 10. It didn't happen by mistake.
BTW, Now Windows is not a product, it is a service. Take these words seriously. :)

How would you then upgrade? Just because XP & Vista is legal, you cant just upgrade to 10. It doesn't work that way. A lot of pirated 7 & 8 installs are upgrading, but that doesn't make it right. No one knows what will happen later on. If you want 10 & are not willingvto pay load a pirated 7 or 8, you cant use your XP or Vista key as a reason. They are not in the upgrade path. Doing something illegally doenst make it legal if you have a "reason".

It doesn't make it wrong either. It might be a grey area, but not very much as MS claim they will support Windows lifetime on Windows 10 devices, so why old Windows devices are excluded? MS already got their money for his device, I am pretty sure they will tolerate it. However if DAZ were used on computers without embedded MS licence, then it is a different story... as you said.

Need some other advice regarding to AMD Drivers on win10. With all AMD's drivers the only none problematic one I found working is 14.4, the moment I try to upgrade the drivers, either freeze after the second time the screen flash or if I'm lucky the drivers will install and when windows startup the PC freeze on logon. Not sure what the problem might be I've disabled some windows screen update drivers and not sure what else to do, I would like to upgrade to the latest drivers.

Anyone with more or less the same experience willing to give me some guidance please

Anybody installed build 10525 yet?

Mine came down today & is busy installing at the moment.

Ja, mine installed this arvy as well, on the office PC. Haven't played with it yet. Just heard about the memory compression tech and colour settings.

I saw the build on Windows Update. Will probably download it later today. I am also thinking of doing a clean install.

What edition of windows is this? I could not update it with Home - kept asking for the key - so I let it update over the internet.

That one is already windows 10

Nonetheless you need home single language to upgrade from windows 8 single language. Just use the media creation tool and download that...

I could not upgrade it from 8.1 to 10 - because it is that funky edition... which cannot be picked from the media creation tool.

I've done this thrice, you just need to select single language 32x, 64x or both: media creation tool > other pc > save iso.

Then pop in the usb/iso and upgrade.

It seems the latest Insider Build 10586 has Intel Speed Step support enabled. Good stuff if you have a Skylake.

Windows Central said:
The gist of Speed Shift is that it lets the processor – and not the OS – determine operating frequency and voltage. Previously, the operating system would take care of this by ramping up and down the processor based on PC tasks. This ramping is why modern processors have peak speeds and baseline ones. Running full blast would result in very short battery life, so the OS puts the CPU down to a lower idle speed when not in use (this also explains why battery tests are task relevant).

Speed Shift pushes this function to the processor itself without the need for the OS to interfere. There are two potential benefits here that immediately become apparent:
1.No change in battery life due to more efficient ramping up and down of the processor
2.A more responsive system as the processor can ramp up to max speed quicker than the OS

Without a doubt this is what AnandTech found in their numerous benchmarks with Howse concluding:

"It does lead to some pretty big gains in task completion, if the workloads are bursty and short enough for it to make a difference. It can't increase the absolute performance of the processor, but it can get it to maximum performance in a much shorter amount of time, as well as get it back down to idle quicker. Intel is billing it as improved responsiveness, and it's pretty clear that they have achieved that." - Brett Howse, AnandTech

The biggest gains were seen in using a test called WebXPRT 2013 (26% gain) and WebXPRT 2015 (20% improvement) with Speed Shift enabled.
