Yeap I have been enjoying my usage of the demo so far, it definitely feels ALOT faster than Windows 7. My D-Link 3G Modem works well with Windows 10 so far, no crashing or anything like that.

I hope Nvidia will come with a beta Windows 10 compatible graphics driver....I am not sure when Intel will bake a Windows 10 version.

Can you have the start screen AND the start menu?? I see you can only pick one of these....would love to have both active.

You already have that. Its just a tad to the right of the start menu :p

Why would you want both though?

Back in the early 90's I used a cad application running on unix box in pretoria via exported display sitting in durban. On occasion i export my laptop's display to my desktop. If you have never experienced it you might not understand the benefits.

I see I mistyped. I meant, "now that's an interesting concept" not "not that's an interesting concept"

I have picked up 1 issue so far. My sickbeard installation cannot see the shared drive I created to my HTPC folder structure. The drive just doesn't show up in selection box.

I think it's because that shared drive is now listed under network locations... not sure if that was already the case in 7 or 8.

wait, do you mean that you want each screen as a seperate desktop? why would you want this?

It's not a bad thing to have if you've experienced/used unix/linux before. Both screens can be totally independent from each other as well as the processes displayed on them. You could even export a screen to another pc on the other side of the world without rdp or anything like that.

Precisely that. Encapsulated desktops, once you experience them, make everything else feel very forced. Although this would need a toggle to allow for spanned and single-monitor modes because not everyone will get why this is a good thing.

The screen export thing, though, seems to be something they're trying to address with those Miracast dongles, so it's local-only hardware for now.

I installed the latest Nvidia drivers, and it's working perfectly.

And do your game(s) run as good as they would with Windows 7 / Windows 8.1?? The driver installed fine for me, just my games lag really badly.

My take, seems fast, seems fairly stable, I ran some steam games last night working 100% with latest Nvidia driver.
Had a few IE crashes and some delays in Explorer thus far, other than that the new start menu is awesome.

Vmware player - Virtual machine, no need for a spare machine

Or Hyper V... I think it comes with windows 8 (well it came with mine).

Runs reasonably well on the VM (even though it's a little resource constrained).

I am no pro but I'm sure I could help ;)
Not sure how far you'll get with that PM without network connectivity though :whistling:

:p Network is fine but one of the more "important" VM's can't run on Hyper-V it seems :(

Have been running this with no problem on VirtualBox (apart from the lack of extensions).

Overall the impression is that it is far more focused on the user experience and productivity than W8 is. The main drawback is that the DE is still far behind the other operating systems. This will probably be another Windows release where the marketing budget will be larger than the development budget.

Used wget with the direct links on their page. Both 64 and 32bit versions finish downloading during the night. So wget works fine to get them.

Native VHD Boot to Windows 10 Technical Preview Dual Boot with Windows 7 or Windows 8

There are a number of ways to try out the new operating systems. You can run it either on a separate spare box sitting around in your home of office, or as a virtual machine inside your current system, or dual-boot side-by-side with your primary OS. The best way of all, at least seems to me, is to use the combination of the virtual machine and dual-boat setup to build a native VHD boot side by side with any current system you use, Windows 7 or Windows 8. Why? because it doesn’t compromise on anything you are currently using while still fully consuming all the computer power you have.

Digging 10 so far. The only issue I have is that my GFX are not as sharp as they were in 8, driver update imminent.
I like the way Explorer now opens with Favorites, Frequent and Recent. Quite a useful feature.

Upgrade from Windows 8 was a breeze as well, everything just worked.

What version of Virtual Box?
That isn't working at the moment for me. Had to move the items I'm working on, to my working VM.

This is VirtualBox 4.3.8. Also, when setting up the virtual machine I told VB that Windows 8.1 was going to be installed on it. Unfortunately the guest additions did not install, but in general it is working well enough for an evaluation.

One disappointment is that my ancient Microsoft PhotoDraw V2 now can't save files in anything but native .mix format, which makes it useless. Virtual Box (4.3.12) starts up fine in Win10 but the only way to get network is to attach to NAT. In the meantime I'll have to edit an image in the Win8.1 virtual machine running on the pfSense Microserver (ESXi). This is a sad loss, but inevitable I s'pose. I was hoping to hold on the PhotoDraw for another decade...
