Windows 7 is under attack, says report

What do you call going through hoops? All it took was a driver either provided by the manufacturer or AMD themselves.

Which driver?

AMD does not have a driver for their latest Ryzen processors on Windows 7;

AMD confirmed that it will not release Windows 7 drivers for its upcoming Ryzen series processors. Only support and drivers for Windows 10 will be provided in AMD Ryzen desktop processor production parts

Also motherboard manufacturers have no drivers for Windows 7 on their latest Ryzen platforms;

Gigabyte;

725066

MSI;

725068

ASUS;

725070

It's the same with intel and their last 3 generations of processors. Motherboard manufacturers only support Windows 10 for these platforms too.

Why would you spend money on a new system and stick to such an old operating system?

Windows 7 will die out as it isn't supported anymore. The only way to get support is by jumping through hoops.

There are people still using Windows 7?

From January 2020, no more security updates thus the number of exploits should increase quite a bit

Guilty!

I have a SSD I need to install and will load win 10 on there when I get some time.

What infections? Read the article. All the information is there.
Win10 is marketing tool to generate more profit nothing else. If they wanted for example win7 should be enough for any hardware.

I don't see this as jumping through hoops. The only hoops of installing drivers yourself are as a result of MS refusing to include them by default.

From what I read MSI is the most friendly when it comes to Win7. Gigabyte the least. Indeed why spend money on a new system and downgrade it to Win10?

........and what about the Smart Shopper terminals in Pick ‘n Pay and the self-service terminals at Ster Kinekor that are still running unsupported Windows XP ?
