If I connect to Telkom the Network & Sharing Centre indicates that I'm connected. But if I connect locally to AXXESS I can see my local network with a cross and no connection to the internet. But I can DL no problem.
I can even connect with my local account to ard.de but not to iol.co.za.
So why can I connect to an international web site but not to iol.co.za?
and why does it says limited connection on my lan and to the internet. No problem connecting to MBB. Any answers or similar experiences?

Can you clarify the issue a bit?

Is the Telkom account a blended-usage account? Is the Axxess account a local-usage account?

If so:

When you say you can "connect" do you mean you can browse the web @ ard.de but not @ iol.co.za ?

Are you able to access http://www.google.co.za on your local-usage account? And you say you are able to access http://www.mybroadband.co.za on your local-usage account?

Check your DNS servers and Default gateway:
1) Start -> Run -> cmd
2) ipconfig /all
3) Scroll to your connection's details
4) Make sure your DNS servers are correct, and that you have the correct default gateway

Windows 7

The Telkom account is the 3 GB blended account.
Axxess is local 10 GB.
I can surf , but I also found that with the axxess account I can never get IOL to open while on the other computer connected to Telkom IOL opens
instantly. So I've got one connection to Telkom and one to Axxess. I'm using
the axxess account mainly for SAIX news and it is working. It is only funny that with the local account I can connect International to ard.de but not to iol.co.za Mybroadband works every time. One more thing is, if I connect to newshost it will show on the Network&Sharing centre that my Lan and Internet is connected. I tried all local sites, I know only newshost changes my status in the Network&Sharing centre. Anyhow thanx for the reply

IOL may be trying to use international services, so that could be why it doesn't open. But that you can access an international server on local... Well that's just puzzling. Unless it's cached? Can you access OTHER international servers?

International

I have tried other sites, but ard.de is the German main TV Channel with news
so I could open all sites on that site Sport, Financial which is not cached.
I've tried a few other sites but I could not connect. Maybe IOL is not hosted
locally. I've also got problems on news24 but since using the local account for news saix only it does not bother me too much. I was mainly concerned with the control panel network & sharing centre. Showing no local or Internet connectivity. Only when I connected to newshost it works. Must be magic

From what I have seen microsoft pings a microsoft server (if think the microsoft.com) and if they can reach that then you have "internet" access. If the O/S is not able to reach that address then it says that you have only local access.

I have seen a lot of times that I have full internet access but not it says only local and then I cannot reach microsoft.com. Or if my cap is depleated and I have only local bandwith left, it sometimes says I have local only access.

Why not use routesentry? Its even easier with 2 PC if you have a modem with a half bridge' mode (acting as a router and modem simultaneously). Connect your modem to your international and then create a PPOE connection on the PC to your local account. Routesentry will setup your routes automatically and will use your local or international accordingly.

I have it up and running on Win7. Works great!

Try this

What browser r u using? Install firefox and the add-on "No-Script"...

iol.co.za is hosted locally... but there r other scripts on the page that r international... if u wait long enough it will load... if u dnt like waiting... just do what I said above...

Firefox + No-Script :)

Ping

I did a ping to www.ard.de is supposed to be hosted in Germany but I've got 10ms Telkom gave me 11 ms so I also tried to ping the other German main TV
called zdf.de same resuld 10 ms. I've got the computers in bridge mode and one to telkom the other to axxess. Don't know about route centry?

Routesentry

I'm using windows 7 Explorer 8. I don't know how to setup half bridge.I've got a Siemens SE 565 Modem Router. In bridge mode.

If your modem supports half-bridge, you should just be able to create a connection without changing anything on the router.

It's easy to test; Just create a 'broadband connection' (PPOE) in Win 7 with your local account while your modem is connected to your international. Now, see if you can connect to myBB or any other local accounts.

If Windows fails to make the connection, then it doesn't support it.
