I was wondering what the memory usage should be in Windows 7 Professional x86 while it's basically idle. Currently it's hovering at around 50%. I have 2GB RAM, no excess start up programs or processes running in the background. Half of that while idle just seems a bit much to me, don't you think?

Don't worry that's a good thing, all modern operating systems reserve quite a lot of memory for caching etc. don't let it bother you even if it seems like a lot, it's helping speed up your computer.

That memory can be reclaimed at any time, it's not locked to the OS, so if a game requests 1.5gb memory it will be made available instantly.

That's good to know. Never thought of it that way. Thanks for your input. :)
