on my 8600 gt 1024 ram is being used and i know i only have the 512mb version of my graphics card aviable on my card 512 ram is also missing on my 4 gb ram and also runing 64 bit windows 7 .

this is where i found the missing ram.

I checked dxdiag. The 8600GT approx memory is 1651MB. How do I get it to use its own 512MB?

It's a nvidia feature/marketing hack, it uses system mem for the gfx, usually on the lower end cards, it was mentioned before that it looks like a 32-bit system. The 64bit version wont install on a 32bit system if I remember correctly, you mentioned that you went to buy a new cpu, what was the old one?

My Win 7 installation is 64bit. There is no doubt about it, it says it in system properties, I have installed 64bit drivers, I used the same disk to install on my laptop and it shows 4GB ram.

My old CPU was a Core 2 Duo 4400. 2.0ghtz 2mb cache. New one is a 7500, 2.93ghtz 3mb cache.

Just make sure in the bios...my asus board has a setting in the bios i had to change to see all 4gigs after installing windows 7 64bit

Please could you tell me the setting name, perhaps it will help me find it. I searched and found nothing

There was a setting in my Asus board about memory remapping. I turned it on and Vista x64 sees all 4Gb. It's not supposed to be on for 32bit OS, but I found it still worked anyway.

MSI boards use Award Bios, so maybe look if MSI put something in about CELL. It's their perfomance technology section IIRC.

There's your problem!

Try update your Bios, and reset bios to default settings. Check that when you boot that it registers all 4gigs. also, try get Ultimate Boot CD and do Memory Diagnostics, could be faulty ram!

Other than that, I don't think highly of Foxconn...

The BIOS update fixed both problems!

I now have the full 4GB and my windows experience index on my CPU is 6.4, a massive difference. My RAM also went from 5.9 to 6.4.

I booted up into Win XP and used Foxconn live update to update the BIOS via windows as I was battling my a$$ off doing it manually.
